"My aupair experience: As a young girl from south Africa who has never been outside of her hometown and has only known about life in the USA from from movies and television I had this idea in my head that it was going to be all happy and brady-bunch like. The truth is that it was a complete culture shock. It took me a long while to adjust to the way of life and to feel at home in my aupair house. The family i was placed with was very kind and patient with me but they had expectations, yes i was part of the family but it was a job and the work was fun but it was also hard. You have to come into this with an open mind that you are there to experience american life but also to take care of the kids and that is your number one priority. Another thing is that you have to make friends and go out and have fun when you are able. Travel and experience as much as you can but also save money. For the most part you will be alone and you have to be strong enough to know yourself and make things happen for yourself as no one will do it for you. This experience was the hardest and best experience I had as it taught me to grow up and be strong. I learned to rely on myself and to do the things i wanted to do and not wait for others. I also learned about other cultures by meeting people from all over the world. I met friends from poland, from Check Republic, from France, From Africa ,from Brazil. New York City is amazing to see and you never get tired of it. It is truly the city that never sleeps. You can easily get caught up in all the lights and the beauty of it all. So its important to know who you are and why you are here to and that is to experience and do a job and save money or whatever your goals are and know that it will end within the year so its important not to get crazy and think it will last forever because at the end of the day you will go home and life will go on."

Beware of scammers!!!

There are so many people out there online, who will act or write to any of you (potential au pairs) on behalf of GreatAuPair. Don't ever trust anyone who tells you to send money via Western Union or Money Gram or any other source of money transfer other than the one listed on GreatAuPair.com. Never ever send money to anyone !!! At GreatAuPair there is only ONE fee - Program fee that covers:
- processing of the au pair candidate's GreatAuPair USA application;
- circulation of the au pair application to potential GreatAuPair families;
- placement with carefully screened American host family registered at GreatAuPair.com;
- au pair training through GreatAuPair Training Academy program;
- DS-2019 form to obtain a J-1 au pair visa;
- round-trip international airfare from a pre-determined city of departure from the au pair's home country to the host family community in the USA;
- medical and accident insurance coverage during program dates;
- support from GreatAuPair including after-hours emergency support;

Under no circumstances, please do not fall into a trap of paying separate fees for: application, placement, document processing or agency.

If anyone contacts you speaking on behalf of GreatAuPair but asking you for urgent payments or sending you an invoice with a name of a specific person - NEVER EVER reply to it!!! Rather forward that to your local GreatAuPair International Representative who will take care of such scams!!!

Another thing to observe is the email address of the person that contacts you claiming they work for GreatAuPair.

Anyone who works for GreatAuPair in the USA will always have their email address looking like this: [email protected]

Any International Representative working for GreatAuPair from outside of the US will have their email address looking like this:
[email protected]

Other than the above listed cases, you are dealing with a scammer!!!
