Honoring the Roots
The foundation of this story began with Mike Tolomia, whose early promise was established during his time as a standout player for the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Elementary SBP program. His dedication to the sport during those formative years helped set a high standard for athletic discipline and excellence.
The Rise of a New Talent
Today, that legacy continues with the next generation: Klarence Tolomia. Now actively competing for the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School, Klarence is carrying the family name forward with pride.
Building the Future
The journey of Mike and Klarence is a testament to the enduring impact of grassroots sports development. By supporting young athletes as they progress through the Ateneo de Zamboanga system, the Azul Aguilas Sports Foundation is helping ensure that these players not only master the fundamentals of basketball but also continue to embody the values and competitive spirit that have defined the Tolomia name in Zamboanga sports.
As Klarence continues his ascent on the court, he stands as a symbol of the next chapter in a proud athletic history, ensuring that the legacy of excellence continues for years to come.

At lunch break today, I found myself simply enjoying the sound of students singing together in the lobby. It was a joy to see some of them confidently take the microphone and sing while their classmates listened, applauded, and cheered them on.
Moving forward, I would love to see our students engaged in many different activities during their free timeโnot only badminton, but also chess, table tennis, board games, music, and other wholesome pursuits that bring people together.
These are more than ways to pass the time. They build friendship, strengthen community, develop confidence, and create a campus where everyone feels they belong. Sometimes, taking the microphone to sing is more than sharing a songโit is an act of courage, self-expression, and joy that inspires others to do the same.
In Jesuit education, we believe in forming the whole person. A vibrant campus is one where students not only study hard but also sing, play, laugh, create, and grow together. These ordinary moments often become the memories that last a lifetime.
May our campus continue to be a place where every student feels free to learn, to share their gifts, and to flourish with others.

While watching our students enjoying the Zumba session today, one of them looked at me and asked with a smile, "Father, el maga padre ta bayla tambien?"
"Yes, of course," I replied.
Then came the next question: "How about you, Father?"
I laughed and answered, "Numa ya... or else all of you will cheer!"
Everyone burst into laughter.
As I watched them dance, I realized that the greatest applause was not only for the students. The loudest cheers came when they saw their teachers and our staff giving their all to the beat of the viral TikTok dance music.
There is something beautiful about moments like these. Students are reminded that their teachers are not only educators but also fellow human beings who know how to smile, laugh, and enjoy life with them. In turn, teachers become more approachable, and the school becomes more than a place of instructionโit becomes a community.
These simple moments matter. They build trust, strengthen relationships, and remind us that formation happens not only in classrooms but also in shared experiences of joy.
A flourishing school is one where people learn together, work together, laugh together, and celebrate life together.

After a long day, one of the most consoling moments for me is watching our students leave the campus. I hear them saying goodbye to one another, wishing each other a safe trip home, laughing with friends, and making their way to the gate. Some rush to their family car where a parent, guardian, or driver is patiently waiting to fetch them. These ordinary moments are quietly beautiful.
There is something deeply reassuring about seeing them walk freely, move confidently, and simply enjoy being young. Every afternoon, I silently pray that each one of them is safeโnot only on their journey home but also throughout life's journey. I hope they continue to find spaces where they are respected, where they can be themselves, where they have the courage to speak up, and where they can stand firm whenever life presents challenges.
Every day, they carry heavy school bags on their shoulders. Yet I hope that, as they leave our campus, their hearts are a little lighter because they have learned something new, experienced kindness, found a friend, shared a laugh, or discovered hope for another day.
I also think of the parents and guardians waiting for themโthose who prepare their things in the morning, remind them to be careful, and welcome them home each afternoon. Their quiet sacrifices and constant love often go unnoticed, yet they are among the greatest blessings a child can receive.
As the campus slowly becomes quiet again, my prayer remains the same: May every student arrive home safely, knowing they are loved at school, cherished at home, and never alone on their journey.
