Teaching my son basketball is easy. Teaching him the habits that makes him great is the real mission.
I want him to understand that talent can open doors, but work ethic keeps them open. That's why we show up early, before everyone else arrives, and stay late, long after the gym is empty.
Not because he has to be the best player on the court today, but because I want him to become the kind of person who never gets outworked.
As his dad, I'll probably always be his biggest fan. As his coach, I'll always push him a little harder. And as long as he'll let me, I'll keep reminding him, be the first one on the court and the last one to leave.
