Great achievements are built through dedication, perseverance, and the determination to embrace every challenge. This week, we proudly recognize JO1 Benny Jan C Cuya for his commitment, discipline, and growing contribution as a member of the BJMP Metal Dragon Boat Team.

JO1 Cuya began his journey in public service when he joined the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology on July 16, 2025. As a Registered Criminologist under RA 1080 and a 2022 graduate of Partido College, he carries with him the knowledge, integrity, and professionalism expected of a public servant dedicated to serving the community.

Since becoming a dragon boat paddler in May 2026, JO1 Cuya has shown remarkable enthusiasm, resilience, and a strong willingness to learn. Through every training session, he continues to develop his skills, strengthen his endurance, and embody the teamwork and discipline that define the BJMP Metal Dragon Boat Team.

Before entering the uniformed service, JO1 Cuya worked as a driver for a private company, where he developed the values of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance. Beyond his duties as a Jail Officer and dragon boat paddler, he is also a visual artist, using his creativity and artistic talent to express ideas, inspire others, and demonstrate that excellence extends beyond the workplace and the sport.

JO1 Cuya’s journey reminds us that success is shaped not only by strength but also by determination, continuous growth, and the courage to pursue one’s passions. Whether serving the community, paddling on the water, or creating meaningful works of art, he exemplifies the values of excellence, commitment, and integrity that inspire the entire BJMP Metal Dragon Boat Team.

The BJMP Metal Dragons, headed by Team Captain JCINSP ARJAY M CUASAY, together with the members of the team, paid a courtesy call to Mandaluyong City Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” A. Abalos at the Mandaluyong City Hall. The meeting served as an avenue to strengthen collaboration between the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Mandaluyong City through sports development and community engagement initiatives.

During the courtesy call, the BJMP Metal Dragons formally presented their proposal to establish and support the formation of a Dragon Boat Team in Mandaluyong City. The initiative aims to promote physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie among city personnel and residents while fostering greater participation in water sports and competitive dragon boat racing.

Mayor Menchie Abalos warmly welcomed the proposal and expressed her full support for the initiative. She recognized the positive impact of dragon boating in promoting health, unity, and excellence among participants. The BJMP Metal Dragons extended their gratitude to the City Government of Mandaluyong for its openness and commitment to advancing sports development, paving the way for future partnerships that will benefit the community.

Since becoming a dragon boat paddler in 2024, she has embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and resilience. Her dedication to training, willingness to learn, and positive attitude have made her a dependable teammate and an inspiring presence within the team. She further strengthened her leadership and operational skills through the successful completion of the CL-13 Star Course, showcasing her commitment to continuous improvement.
