When will we finally stop thinking that every man who plays volleyball is gay?

It's time to leave this outdated mindset behind. Volleyball is a sport not a label, and certainly not a way to define someone's gender or identity.

Being an athlete is about passion, discipline, dedication, hard work, and respect for the game. The sport you choose to play does not determine who you are.

Let's normalize men playing volleyball without judgment or stereotypes. Every athlete deserves respect, no matter what sport they love.

An Open Letter to Some Basketball Players‼️‼️‼️‼️

This isn't a letter of hatred. It isn't written to start an argument or create more division. It's written because respect has been missing for far too long.

To some basketball players in our community, I hope you take a moment to reflect on how your actions affect the people around you. Being loud is one thing, but using your voice to judge, mock, and belittle others is another. Playing selfishly, acting as if the court belongs only to you, and making volleyball players feel unwelcome isn't confidence, it's disrespect.

What hurts the most is that we're not strangers. We come from the same barangay. We represent the same community. Yet sometimes it feels like we're treated as outsiders simply because we chose a different sport.

Volleyball is not beneath basketball, just as basketball is not above volleyball. Every athlete knows the sacrifices behind every game, the early mornings, the exhausting training, the injuries, the pressure, and the determination to improve. Different sports, but the same dedication.

Respect isn't measured by how many points you score, how high you jump, or how many games you win. It's measured by how you treat people who stand on the other side of the court. A truly great athlete doesn't need to insult another sport to feel superior. Greatness is shown through humility, discipline, and the ability to uplift others instead of tearing them down.

We are all athletes. We all wear our jerseys with pride. We all carry the name of our barangay every time we step onto the court. So why do we act like enemies when we should be supporting one another?

This letter is not asking for special treatment. It is asking for something every person deserves basic human respect.

Let's stop the unnecessary insults. Stop looking down on volleyball players. Stop creating an environment where others feel unwelcome. Let the court be a place where talent is celebrated, friendships are built, and every athlete is treated with dignity.

At the end of the day, trophies will collect dust, scores will be forgotten, and championships will fade into history. But your character, your words, and the way you treat people will always be remembered.

So before you call yourself a great basketball player, ask yourself this:

Are you also a great teammate, a great sportsman, and above all, a great human being?

Because no matter what sport we play, respect will always be the greatest victory.
