JMC Kings emerged as the champion of the volleyball tournament held during the two-day 65th Parochial Fiesta of Virgen Dolorosa Parish, held on September 5β6, defeating UM - Davao, 3β2, in the championship match on September 6 at the Babak Multipurpose Gymnasium, Babak District, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte.
The championship came after a tough road for the Kings, including a loss to UM β Davao during the elimination round. The team would get another chance against the same team in the finals, this time with the championship on the line.
JMC Kings started their journey on September 5 with a 2β1 victory over SANGRE.
The Kings then faced UM β Davao in their second elimination match, where they fell 0β2, with the first set at 25-27 and the second set 22-25.
Despite the loss, the Kings bounced back in its final elimination match by defeating AMYA Polytechnic College, 2β0, in the first set: 27-25; and the second set: 25-18, securing its spot in the semifinal round.
The Kings then faced Rizal Memorial CollegeβDavao in the semifinals. After a closely contested opening two sets, JMC pulled away in the deciding set to take the match, 2β1, in the first set: 25-23; the second set: 24-26; and the third set:25-17, advancing to the championship.
Waiting for them in the championship were familiar faces: UM β Davao. Having already lost to UM β Davao during the elimination round, the Kings entered the championship determined to turn the result around. The Kings delivered, battling through five sets to defeat UM β Davao, 3β2, in the first set with 25-22; the second set: 22-25; the third set: 28-26; the fourth set: 22-25; and the fifth set: 15-9, claiming the tournament championship.
Their journey throughout the competition showed determination and perseverance, especially after experiencing an early setback against UM - Davao. It also showed the importance of teamwork, discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship; values that helped the Kings stay focused, recover from defeat, and compete until the very end.
