KALINGA'S GOLDEN WARRIOR: Maximo "Kalinga Saenchai" Saking Jr. Becomes First and Youngest iKalinga Muay Thai World Champion
At only 15 years old, Maximo "Kalinga Saenchai" Saking Jr. has etched his name into Philippine combat sports history after becoming the first and youngest iKalinga Muay Thai World Champion.
The pride of Kalinga captured the gold medal in the 45-kilogram Under-18 division of the 1st International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) Muay Thai Championships, defeating Erdem Kaçar of Turkey in a remarkable championship performance that showcased his skill, composure, and warrior spirit on the international stage.
Guided by head coach Erwin Tagure, founder and chief trainer of Team Tribu Banwar in Tabuk City, Kalinga, Saking displayed exceptional discipline, determination, and technical excellence throughout the competition. His victory not only earned him a world title but also marked a historic milestone for the province of Kalinga and the entire Cordillera region.
Known in the fighting world as "Kalinga Saenchai," Saking has built an impressive resume across Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and amateur combat sports despite his young age.
Among his major achievements is winning the gold medal at the 2026 National Kickboxing Championships in the Low Kick division after scoring a dominant Technical Knockout (TKO) victory against an opponent from Mountain Province.
He is also a three-time Philippine National Muaythai Champion, consistently proving himself among the country's finest young fighters. Adding to his growing collection of titles, Saking is a two-time Batang Pinoy National Champion, earning back-to-back gold medals in the Philippines' premier national youth games.
In December 2025, he further strengthened his reputation by winning his featured bout in the prestigious Yodrak Muay Thai Amateur Championship.
His outstanding performances earned him a coveted spot in the Philippine National Youth Muaythai Team, known as the "Teen Bagsik" squad, representing the country in international competitions under the IFMA banner.
