WHY WE PLAY GEL BLASTER?
We play gel blaster for one simple reason: WE ENJOY IT!
For us, gel blaster is a hobby, a recreational sport and a way to have fun with friends and fellow players. It brings excitement, teamwork, strategy, competition and most importantly, a community where people can enjoy the game together.
But before anything else, we want to say something that we have kept silent about for almost a year. For almost a year, we chose to remain silent about the discrimination, belittling and negative treatment that some of us experienced simply because we chose to play gel blaster.
We stayed silent not because we had nothing to say and not because we agreed with it, but because we wanted to avoid unnecessary conflict. We wanted to focus on the hobby, our community, our games and the people who genuinely support us.
But silence should not be mistaken for weakness or acceptance. After almost a year, we believe it is time to speak. We also want to make one thing very clear: we are not here to take out, replace or compete against airsoft or any other hobby. We have no plans or intention of proving that gel blaster is better than the rest.
Just like airsoft players enjoy airsoft and other hobbies, WE ENJOY GEL BLASTER. Almost the same platforms. Almost the same equipment. Almost the same experiences. Same reason, WE WANT TO HAVE FUN AND ENJOY LIFE!
We also have few individuals from the airsoft community who are part of our circle but not toxic as this. This is not only applicable to Negros Island Region Gelsoft Community; the same can be seen in other regions and communities across the Philippines.
People can enjoy more than one hobby. Being an airsoft player does not prevent someone from enjoying gel blaster. Enjoying gel blaster does not make someone an enemy of airsoft. We should not be forcing people to choose sides simply because we have different ammos. We use gelballs, you use BBs.
And to those who think gel blaster is automatically a “kids' hobby,” we ask:
“Abi kay dili mi malubngan ug bala, pangbata na dayon ni nga hobby?” Just because gel blasters do not use traditional BBs does not mean the hobby cannot involve serious gameplay, strategy, discipline, teamwork, proper safety practices and a strong community.
But the same goes the other way around. Having BBs embedded in your skin does not automatically make you a “real” MilSimer or Speedsofter. Getting hit harder, having more bruises or using almost the same platform does not determine how serious, skilled or dedicated someone is to MilSim or SpeedSoft.
MILSIM AND SPEEDSOFT ISN'T MEASURED BY PAIN.
It is shown through immersion, discipline, teamwork, communication, tactics, objectives, sportsmanship and respect for the rules and the experience being created.
We don't need to act like our hobby is a real battlefield just to prove that it is valid. At the end of the day, it is still a game and a hobby for us to embrace. And that's exactly why we play, FOR FUN.
AND TO THOSE WHO THINK BEING FIRST MEANS BEING IN CHARGE?
“Abi kay kamo ang nauna, kamo na dapat maghari.”
NO NO NO! Being in a hobby longer does not automatically give anyone the right to look down on those who came after.
Being one of the first communities, an established player or part of a larger scene does not make anyone the owner of the hobby. You may have come first, but that does not make you the ruler.
Respect must be given to those who know how to give respect. We respect the airsoft community. We respect other hobbies. We respect those who came before us and helped build their respective hobbies. All we ask is that the same RESPECT be given back.
This statement is not meant to attack airsoft or any other hobby. This is not a war between hobbies, it is a response to the bullying, discrimination and mentality of superiority that some people have shown toward others simply because they enjoy something different.
If your way of proving that your hobby is “better” by calling another hobby pambata or para sa mga walay bu-ot and mocking its players, questioning their legitimacy or measuring who is more “hardcore” by how many BBs are embedded in their skin, then maybe the problem isn't the hobby. IT'S YOUR ATTITUDE AND THE KIND OF PERSON YOU ARE!
We don't need to tear down another community to build ours up. Gel blaster players do not need airsoft or other hobbies to disappear for us to enjoy what we do. There is room for everyone. We can coexist. We can play our own games. We can learn from one another. We can even enjoy multiple hobbies at the same time.
So if this statement makes the BULLY INDIVIDUALS feel called out, then perhaps instead of getting offended, IT IS TIME TO REFLECT. Because we are not here to compete with your hobby. We are not here to prove that gel blaster is superior. We are not here to erase the history of other communities. WE ARE SIMPLY HERE TO ENJOY THE GAME. OUR GAME!
And after almost a year of staying silent, this is all we have to say:
You don't have to like our hobby. You don't have to play our hobby. But you will respect us the same way we respect you. Because being different does not make us inferior. Being first does not make you superior. And being hit by more BBs does not make you more of a warrior.
WE HAVE ALMOST THE SAME EQUIPMENT, WE USE REPLICAS LIKE YOU TOO.
ALMOST THE SAME PLATFORM AND THE SAME PASSION. THE SAME GAMEPLAY AND GAME MODES.
RESPECT OUR HOBBY THE WAY WE RESPECT YOU.
RESPECT ALL GELSOFTERS TOO. RESPECT BOTH WAYS.
