East Sepik School Rugby League Team Arrives in Port Moresby for Historic Exhibition Match

The East Sepik School Rugby League representative team has officially arrived in Port Moresby this afternoon ahead of their highly anticipated exhibition match against the NCD School Rugby League representative side this Sunday.

The visit marks more than just another rugby league fixture. It is a unique opportunity designed to inspire young athletes by combining sport with education, leadership, and personal development.

While in the nation's capital, the East Sepik students will not only showcase their rugby league talent on the field but will also visit the University of Papua New Guinea and several other educational institutions. The educational tour aims to expose the students to higher learning opportunities and encourage them to pursue academic excellence alongside their sporting ambitions.

The initiative reflects the growing vision of the East Sepik School Rugby League Competition, which believes that rugby league can be a powerful pathway to both education and a brighter future.

The tour would not have been possible without the generous support of several committed sponsors and community leaders. Special recognition goes to JS Commodity and JS Coffee Bean, led by Mr. John Simon, AHL Civil Works, led by Mr. Moses Warie, Seaside Lodge, under the leadership of Mr. Wesley Kulak, and Bason Design & Creativity for investing in the future of these young athletes.

Their support demonstrates the importance of partnerships between the private sector and community organisations in creating life-changing opportunities for young people.
Sunday's exhibition match promises to be an exciting contest between two emerging rugby league regions, providing players with valuable experience while strengthening relationships between East Sepik and the National Capital District through sport.

This afternoon, the East Sepik Provincial Sports Director officially handed over the completed Entries by Numbers forms to Mr. John D'Siguria, Games Sports Director, at the GOC Office, PNGSF, Port Moresby.

East Sepik Province is the 9th province to officially lodge its Entries by Numbers for the 8th PNG Unity Games 2026.

Team East Sepik Management has nominated five (5) sporting codes to represent the province at the 8th PNG Unity Games, which will be held in Port Moresby, NCD.

2. Boxing (M/F)
3. Kick Boxing (M/F)
4. Rugby League 9s (M/F)
5. Soccer (M/F)

The East Sepik Provincial Sports Office acknowledges the dedication of this code coordinators and officials for showing consistency & active participation in their respective sporting codes.

Eleven (11) sporting codes have been officially endorsed by the PNG Games Council.

1. East Sepik Province has nominated five (5) sporting codes, which have been endorsed by the respective Provincial Code Coordinators to represent Team East Sepik:

iii. Kick Boxing (M/F)
iv. Rugby League 9s (M/F)
