Lae Snax Tigers extended their winning streak to three matches with a hard-fought 16-12 victory over NPL Enga Mioks in Round 9 of the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup Amazing Round at the National Football Stadium.

The defending champions made an early statement through the boot of Macquin Gabriel, who landed a penalty goal in the third minute before converting Errol Gaitu's opening try. Gabriel added another penalty goal midway through the second half to keep the Tigers in front.

Enga Mioks stayed within striking distance thanks to a try from Wingti Raima and a penalty goal by Kumul Kaupa, setting up a tense finish.

With the scores locked in a tight contest, Ruben Pok crossed late in the match to give the Tigers breathing space, with Gabriel adding the conversion.

The Mioks responded through Mondokai Waim in the dying moments, but it was too late to deny Lae their third consecutive victory.

The 16-12 result keeps the reigning premiers building momentum as the competition heads into the second half of the season.

Kandes RLC continued their impressive debut Digicel ExxonMobil Cup campaign with a hard-fought 22-14 victory over PRK Mendi Muruks in the final match of Amazing Round Day One at the National Football Stadium on Saturday.

The competition newcomers crossed for four tries through Ames John, Jayden Nuampo, Joseph Martin and Stenza Tandoa, while Charlie Simon slotted three conversions to guide Kandes to an important Round 9 win.

The Muruks fought hard to stay in the contest, with Levai Andrew scoring twice and Finley Peter adding another try. Francis Sam converted one of his three attempts as Mendi mounted a late challenge.

Despite the pressure, Kandes maintained their composure and control throughout the contest, sealing an entertaining 22-14 victory and further strengthening their credentials in their first season in the top flight.

“This is our way of giving back to the community, and we are proud to support the UPNG Rugby League Competition. Congratulations to the executives, and we wish all participating teams the very best this season,” said Mol.

A total of 24 men's teams and five women's teams will compete in this year's competition.

Northern Mastamak Construction Limited has also joined as a minor sponsor, with Managing Director Mathew Joseph committing K5,000 in cash support along with official merchandise for the season.

UPNG Rugby League President Gama Olta thanked both sponsors, LUCKYBET777 and Northern Mastamak Construction Limited, for their valuable support and acknowledged everyone who contributed to making the competition possible.
