NCD Schools Rugby League Concludes Successful 2026 Season

Developing Champions. Building Leaders. Strengthening Communities.

The NCD Schools Rugby League (NCDSRL) has successfully concluded its 2026 season, bringing together 30 schools from across the National Capital District in one of the city's largest school-based sporting and youth development programs.

Operating under the National Capital District Commission's (NCDC) social development agenda, NCDSRL uses Rugby League to promote discipline, teamwork, leadership, respect and positive community engagement while creating opportunities for young people to grow both on and off the field.

Runners-Up
U15 Boys – Ororo Junior High School
U16 Girls – Pari Primary School
U17 Boys – Tokarara Secondary School
U18 Girls – Jubilee Catholic Secondary School
U19 Boys – St Charles Lwanga Secondary School

Championship shields and trophies were presented to the winning and runner-up schools on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, with presentations held at the respective schools, allowing students, teachers and their communities to celebrate the season's achievements together.

NCDSRL extends its sincere appreciation to its major sponsor, NCDC, and to Moni Plus Limited, the 2026 Grand Final Sponsor and Moni Plus Shield partner, for their continued commitment to youth and community development.

The league also acknowledges the valuable support of Nasfund Contributors Savings & Loan Society (NCSL), Australian High Commission PNG, Paradise Foods Limited, NRL Bid Academy, NCD Port Moresby Vipers, PNGRFL, the National Department of Education, PNG Sports Foundation, PNG Olympic Committee/OSEP, and Teseta Medical Centre, whose contributions helped deliver another successful season.

NCDSRL also thanks its executives, coaches, match officials, school coordinators, volunteers, parents and guardians whose dedication ensured the competition's success over the past three months.

As preparations begin for the 2027 season, NCDSRL remains committed to developing young people through sport by strengthening coaching, expanding participation and creating positive pathways for future generations.

The NCDSRL condemns the misconduct at the 2026 Grand Finals. Violence and unsportsmanlike behaviour have no place in rugby league. Respect for officials, opponents, and teammates is non‑negotiable.

Students, remember: every action has a reaction. Focus on your exams, your education, and the sacrifices your parents and teachers have made to get you here.

Community sport is built on the dedication of volunteers.

Despite the challenges and occasional negativity that come with running community-based programs, the NCD School Rugby League (NCDSRL) continues to provide opportunities for thousands of young people because of the commitment of our volunteers from the Executives to our match officials, teachers, coaches, managers, and many others who generously give their time each weekend.

We also acknowledge and appreciate the support of our valued corporate partners who invest in grassroots rugby league and youth development.

A special thank you to NCSL , for presenting gift packs to acknowledge and appreciate our NCDSRL Match Officials for their outstanding service throughout the 2026 season. Our match officials play a vital role in ensuring every game is conducted fairly, safely, and professionally, and their contribution deserves to be recognized.

The presentation was received by Benson Hahambu Director – Social Development, National Capital District Commission (NCDC), on behalf of NCDSRL on 31 July 2026.

Recognition of volunteers and officials is an important part of building a strong sporting culture. It boosts morale, encourages continued participation, and reminds everyone that the success of community rugby league depends on the people who willingly serve behind the scenes.

To the Sepik Pride Under-19 Executives, coaching staff, and players, thank you for your wonderful comradeship, sportsmanship, and friendship throughout this inaugural exchange. It was a privilege to host you, and we truly appreciate the positive spirit and respect you brought both on and off the field.

We wish you every success in your future endeavours, both in rugby league and in life. May this be the beginning of a strong and lasting relationship between our teams and regions.
