PNG was represented by six athletes at the recent World Under 20 Championships in Eugene Oregon. The inclusion of the mixed relays was a wonderful opportunity to smaller nations to provide their athletes with a great developmental experience. The athletes were able to experience a very high level competition in an atmosphere that was not overwhelming for them, so it was an excellent all round experience. Six athletes were selected to cover the mixed 4x100 and mens 4x100 and it was later decided to run the mixed 4x400 as well since this was on day one , giving the athletes chance to get a feel of the track and settle any nervces before our main events. Hence the team of six were able to cover three relays. Two under 18 athletes were included (Kabake Lansana and Althea Dale) as well as Hephzibah Romalus , Ethan Asimba Calvert Avea and Jack Mahuru. The team was coached by Rellie Kaputin. Several past and present US based athletes were there to support the team including Sharon Kwarula Annie Topal Monica Kalua and Scholastica Herman
The support of the Oregon26 Visa office was outstanding, as was the support of the US embassy in Port Moresby. Getting all the visas approved in less than four weeks from applications being submitted was a great all round effort

After having a hit out in the mixed 4x400m relay yesterday to get a feel of the track and settle nerves the PNG team had an outstanding result in the mixed 4x100m relay today in Eugene.

Running in the same heat as the Great Britain team that set a world under 20 record of 41.60sec , the PNG team of Ethan Asimba , Hephzibah Romalus , Kabake Lansana and Althea Dale clocked an time of 45.80secs. A great experience for the team.

Tomorrow Hephzibah will run the individual 200m and the last event for the PNG team is the mens 4x100m relay on Saturday local time at midday (12:25)
