These giants aren’t your average deer! Wapiti (also known as elk) are among the largest members of the deer family in the world, with mature bulls tipping the scales at over 450kg and carrying impressive antlers that can span more than 1.5 metres across.
Originally introduced to New Zealand from North America in the early 1900s, wapiti have become legendary among hunters and deer enthusiasts alike.

Have you tried butterfish before?
It’s my favourite eating fish at the moment.
It has a soft white flesh that goes well crumbed, floured, or fried with salt and pepper. Similar to a mix of snapper and blue cod, yum!
Spotted a couple of deer on our Easter weekend hunt. Great to see them so close to the Hutt 🦌

Managed to get out for a hunt over the Easter weekend break. There’s something quite peaceful about walking k’s upon k’s through the Ngahere (forest) which soothes the soul.
