Had a yarn with a mate. He was buzzing - showed me how he's been using ChatGPT to plot fishing marks.

Takes a screenshot of his SST chart, pastes it into ChatGPT, asks it to "mark the best spots based on temperature breaks." Gets coordinates. Plots them. Done.

"Free fishing intel, bro!"

I sat there stunned.

I've spent 18 months building Vector IQ. Hundreds of hours. Thousands of dollars. Integrating live satellite feeds, building scoring algorithms, creating a pattern learning system that improves from validated catches.

And here's my mate getting "marks" from a chatbot.

So I asked: "Where's it getting current data from? Where water masses collide and push bait together?"

Blank look.

"Chlorophyll? The plankton blooms that attract bait?"

Nothing.

"Does it know depth? Whether it's 50m or 500m?"

He shrugged. "It looks at the SST, bro."

Here's the thing: Chatbots can't query live satellite data. Can't calculate thermal gradient steepness. Don't know where currents converge or upwelling brings nutrients to the surface.

It's guessing. Educated guessing. But guessing.

This was the 1st marlin from yesterday showing (orange waypoint) mark proximity to our actual hookup location the blue waypoints were where guys were catching them last year. We ran over a shallow mark on the wayout and there was a workup on it but it was in 50m and i wanted to target out wide so we carried on. Talked to a mate this morning and he said guys were catching them shallow in the evening, im not sure how close to our marks but thought that was interesting. I also had a mate who uses timezero ocean O and weve been talking back and forward about where hes plotting vs Vector is plotting and what weve found is when both plot the same zone its on, sometimes we have different marks so now ive been concentrating on marks that interact across both platforms. Thats where vector fits perfectly with the price point. We aren't here to replace and at $99 if you get intersecting marks across 2 platforms it has to be on. No platform will ever be 100% all the time and im open about that but if you can get the confidence to work an area where two platforms align your chances are better than cruising the ocean without a plan

How to use Vector IQ effectively

Running a Watch

Open the app and select your zone and target species
Tap "Run Watch" - we'll pull the latest satellite SST, currents, chlorophyll, and weather data
You'll get tactical marks scored by our prediction engine - these are the spots where conditions line up best for your species right now
Live Page
Head to the Live page to see your GPS position. Your tactical marks from the watch appear here too, so you can navigate straight to them.

Bite Times
Check the solunar panel for your best windows. We combine moon phase, sunrise/sunset, and species-specific feeding patterns to highlight when fish are most likely to be active. The timeline shows intensity throughout the day - darker = better.

Validating Your Catches
When you hook up, tap "Bite" or "Validate Catch" Buttons and log the location, species, and conditions. Upload a photo if you've got one.

Why it matters: Every validated catch feeds our Pattern Learning System. The algorithm learns which SST, chlorophyll levels, current patterns, and conditions produced real fish - then uses that to sharpen future predictions. More validations = smarter marks for everyone. Your marks are never shared with other users just the data associated with the catch mark.
