OBU Junior Rugby is the new home of junior rugby in Wellington’s western and central suburbs.

Built on the proud traditions of Wests Rugby and Old Boys University, we’re creating something special for the next generation of young players.

As we enjoy a well earned mid season break, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped make the start of the season such a positive one.

This year, OBU Juniors has more than 180 kids registered and fielding 12 teams, the most of any club in Wellington City. We’re absolutely stoked. It’s a fantastic reflection of the energy, support and enthusiasm of this awesome community.

A massive thank you to our volunteers: coaches, managers, parents and supporters who give their time, encouragement and positive sideline support every week. We’re so grateful for the way you show up for our tamariki.

A few reminders for the weeks ahead:

School holidays
There will be no junior rugby for two weeks during the school holidays: Saturday 11 July and Saturday 18 July.

For our rugby-mad whānau, there are some programmes, skills days and rugby festivals happening during the break. Please reach out to your conveners for more details.

Team photos
Save the date: Monday 27 July at the Green Room. More details will be shared soon.

OBU Juniors hoodies
Our 2026 hoodies are now available for our wider community in kids and adult sizes — a great way for players, parents and supporters to show their club colours through winter.

Last round before the school holidays!

One more big weekend of junior rugby before we head into the break. Good luck to all our OBU teams taking the field this Friday and Saturday — play hard, support your mates, and enjoy every minute out there.

Shout-out to our coaches, managers, referees, supporters and whānau who keep the sideline energy strong every week. Let’s finish the term with plenty of teamwork, effort and club spirit.

Check the draw for kick-off times and locations, get along if you can, and cheer on the Goats!

A big weekend of junior rugby ahead for our OBU teams, with games kicking off Friday evening and rolling through Saturday morning.

Good luck to all our players, coaches, managers and whānau heading out across the region — especially our teams travelling to some of the farthest points on the draw this weekend:

Y2 Raptors & Y2 Tigers heading to Trentham Memorial Park
Y5 Dragons making the trip to Ngāti Toa Domain
Y5 Sea Wolves travelling out to Petone Rec
Y7 Wests Roosters & Y8 Roosters heading to Delaney Park

Play hard, support each other, respect the refs, and enjoy every minute out there.

🟢⚪ Go well, Goats!

Match Report | Y6 Lions vs Y6 Ories Tui’s

A hard-fought game today between the Lions and the Ories Tui’s, played in fantastic spirit from start to finish.

There was plenty of skill on show across the field, with great tackles, excellent work at the breakdown, strong support play, and some really positive signs as the team continues learning to play more structured rugby.

Huge congratulations to Mac, our Player of the Day, and George, Opposition Player of the Day.

It was also awesome to see the continued growth of the girls’ game, with both teams having strong representation on the field. A special thanks to the Impalas for being on the sideline and supporting the team.

Great effort, Lions! 🦁🏉

Round 8 is here! 🏉💚🤍

It's a big weekend for OBU Juniors, with all seven of our home fixtures being played at Ian Galloway Park on Saturday.

From our Year 3s through to our Year 8s, Ian Galloway will be packed with green and white as players, coaches, managers and whānau come together for a great morning of junior rugby.

Whether you're playing, coaching, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, we'd love to see as many people as possible down at Ian Galloway Park supporting our young players and helping create a great club atmosphere.

Good luck to all our teams this weekend. Play hard, support each other, and enjoy your rugby.

The OBU Year 6 151's faced the Pōneke Warriors in a fast and physical match at Kilbirnie. Plenty of Pōneke tries and some well earnt OBU runs too.

Both teams showed great spirit, awesome to see the passing and communication on the field.

Congratulations to our PoD - Konrad, some great tackles and showed resilience getting back on the field after an injury
