Family-run, locally owned. Mobile tyre service across South Canterbury & beyond. Too hard basket? We don’t own one. We're not a faceless franchise.

We’re a local family doing tyres our way — with honesty, grit, and a bit of banter. After 22 years in the game down in Oamaru, we decided to start fresh right here in Geraldine, doing what we do best: tyres. We're your neighbours, your school run buddies, your weekend chat at the servo types. When you roll into Keen As Tyres, you’re getting real people, real service, and tyres you can count on.

We have our Timaru Basic Vehicle Maintenance workshop happening this Saturday.
If you are around the South Canterbury area, secure one of the last spots now! - https://www.facebook.com/share/1993bZpDWq/

We also will have our Timaru Ladies car cruise and meet up details released later this week! Loving these warmer weather days for cruising.

One thing we’re learning as Keen As grows is just how valuable it is to have good people in your corner.

And apparently the solution to breaking your fleet truck is simply... acquire another fleet truck 😂

Ours is off the road for a few days, but thankfully we’ve got some very handy people we can call on who could step in and keep us moving.

So if you see an unfamiliar fleet truck coming up your driveway, don’t start wondering who you called. It’s still us 😂

Different truck. Same Shaun. Same Keen As.

And thankfully, she’s still black... because once you go black, apparently you really don’t go back.

Because growing Keen As doesn’t just mean more staff.

It also means building a pretty bloody good network around us 👀

More on that another day...

When he says “I’m on my way home” for the second time today... 😂

Welcome to weekend call-outs.

There’s something pretty satisfying about seeing our patch slowly get a little bigger.

Lately that’s meant a few more tractors and new farm customers around Geraldine, while Fairlie also seems to have become a fairly regular destination for the Keen As truck.

Nothing dramatic. Just word of mouth, people giving us a go, and then hopefully keeping our number for next time.

That’s the kind of growth we really appreciate.

Another Friday and Saturday in the books, and another good mix of South Canterbury tyre life.

Right, now that we’ve introduced Cody, we should probably explain why we’ve actually hired the poor bu**er 😂

And no, it’s not just so Shaun has someone else to give him s**t all day.

Although that is apparently going to be a significant part of the role.

The real reason?

We can see what’s coming.

Keen As keeps getting busier, Shaun keeps disappearing further afield doing fleets, trucks, agri work and call-outs, and somehow the workshop also needs to keep functioning while he’s off gallivanting around the countryside.

So far, we’ve pulled it off.

There have just been a few slightly sweaty moments when Shaun’s been somewhere like Ohau and the phone has kept ringing 😂

We’re not at the point of having to say no to work.

And we don’t particularly want to get there.

So rather than waiting until Shaun finally discovers that he cannot, in fact, physically be in two places at once, we’re getting ahead of it.

Enter Cody.

His main domain will be workshop and sales.

Cars, 4WDs, punctures, wheels, tyre packages, advice, fleet work and whatever else comes rolling through the door.

Basically, Cody gives us more capacity before capacity becomes a problem.

He’s got around 6 years in the tyre game across cars, 4WDs, trucks, agri, fleet, punctures and sales, and Shaun’s worked with him before, so we already know he can handle a tyre lever.

His self-declared tyre superpower is punctures.

His dream vehicle is an 80 Series Land Cruiser.

He runs on Blue V.

And he believes pineapple belongs on pizza.

Which obviously scored him several points during the recruitment process.

But our favourite answer was probably this:

“I’ll listen to what the customer has to say before I make any recommendations.”

And that’s exactly what we want.

We’re growing, but we don’t want that growth to come at the expense of the way we look after people.

So this is us getting ahead of it.

More hands.
More workshop coverage.
More flexibility when Shaun is halfway across the countryside.
And a bit more room for Keen As to keep growing without everything hinging on one vertically challenged tyre fitter 😂

What. A. Day. 😂

You’d think I would have learnt by now that when Shaun says, “It’s just a puncture,” I should absolutely not believe him.

One ute puncture this morning somehow turned into another ute puncture, a bale feeder puncture, pricing some new side-by-side tyres, a tractor tyre water fill and a trailer puncture… across three farms down the Otaio area.

And all in absolutely pouring rain. 🌧️

Big thanks to the customers who had things tucked into sheds where possible so Shaun could at least attempt to stay dry.

Me? Today was also apparently the perfect day to discover my work boots have a hole in them. Excellent. 😂

Then, just as we were finally heading north for home, we witnessed an accident happen right in front of us. A lady caught the wet grass verge coming around a bend, lost control and very nearly barrel rolled.

Thankfully she was okay. We stopped along with two other fellas, made sure she was alright, called the police and stayed until things were sorted.

So after 4pm I was FINALLY off to collect our kids, with a massive thank you to our village for stepping in with school and kindy pick-ups when “just a puncture” turns into… whatever today was.

Lesson learnt?

When Shaun says, “It’s just a puncture”…

Pack snacks.

Actually, just be safe and don’t go. 😂

🫖 THE TEA HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN SPILT…

Meet Cody 👋

Cody is joining the Keen As crew, bringing around 6 years in the tyre industry and experience across pretty much the whole lot — cars, 4WDs, trucks, agri, fleet, punctures and sales.

He and Shaun have actually worked together before too, so this isn’t exactly a blind date 😂 Shaun already knows how Cody works, what he’s capable of, and most importantly… that they can put up with each other.

And he’s exactly the sort of person we wanted to add to the team.

He’s big on actually listening to customers, understanding what they need, and then making recommendations based on that — rather than just throwing a tyre and a price at them.

Sound familiar? 😏

Outside of tyres, Cody’s a laid-back outdoors sort of bloke who’s into hunting, fishing, camping, working on vehicles and spending time with his family and mates.

But this isn’t just us adding another face to Keen As.

For the last wee while, one of our biggest challenges has simply been capacity.

Shaun can only be in one place at a time, and when he’s out doing fleets, breakdowns, agri or commercial work, it makes keeping the workshop consistently available bloody difficult.

Cody changes that.

It means more consistent workshop availability.
More capacity to take on work.
More flexibility when the truck is out on the road.
And hopefully a few less instances of Shaun attempting to be in three places at once. 😂

We’ve still got a little while before Cody officially starts, but we reckon he’s going to fit into Keen As pretty damn well.

Welcome to the madness, Cody 👏

And yes… we asked him all the important questions.

Apparently pineapple belongs on pizza, his drink of choice is a Blue V, and he’s already planning to give Shaun s**t about his height.

We’ll spill the rest of that tea tomorrow. 👀

Remember all those posts about Shaun needing to be in two places at once?

Turns out cloning him was frowned upon.

So we did something else instead 👀

More hands. More capacity. More room to say “yep, we can sort that.”

Tea will be spilled shortly…

Any guesses? 😏

IMPORTANT TUESDAY QUESTION 👀

Does your car have a name?

And if it does, we need to hear it 😂

Is it something cute? Something completely ridiculous? Named after the number plate? Or did it earn its name after years of questionable behaviour?

And if your car doesn’t officially have a name… what do you call it when it refuses to behave?

Drop your car’s name below 👇

Bonus points if there’s a story behind it.
