Hooked up 100% Aotearoa fishing

I joined Mike Smith and his daughters, Libby and Sarah, for a Father's Day fishing mission - 30 minutes in, and Libby hooks up on a stonker which puts up a super awesome battle in the super shallow water, and Libby lands her first 20lb snapper. With a quick reset with fresh baits, we had both girls with a double hook-up; Mike and I were both cracking up because we weren’t even fishing, just watching the mayhem unfold. Sarah managed to land a 50 and Libby landed a 74, and the girls were on fire - right time for me to get a big bait out. A 10-minute soak with a big chunk of kawai, and I had loaded up another awesome battle in the shadow waters, keeping the fish's head high so it couldn’t dive into the kelp. She measured 83.5 on the measure mat and was released not long after - everyone was stoked, and bloody awesome memories were made, and that’s what it’s all about. You don’t win every time, but when you do, it makes up for when you don’t. 😜

2026 blue tuna trip to Waihau Bay. Firstly, big thanks to Samuel Vincent Connolly for an epic trip down to Waihau Bay. On day one, we managed to get hooked up in the afternoon on the Lures and I landed my first bluefin after two years of trying in my own boat. Absolutely stoked, on day two we got into night jigging and were absolutely spoilt, finding huge schools of bait and hooking up straight away. Sammy got his fish after a second drop and not long after that, I managed to hook up as well on the spinning gear, which was a mean fight. Two fish landed that night, and we were heading in and home by nine. Day two was a struggle; we managed to find bait but just couldn’t get the bite. We were eating like kings and took home a couple of crayfish with a s**t tonne of tuna. I'll definitely be back into it next year.cheers Sam 🛥️obsidian is a weapon 🐟🐟🐟
