Reunited with my best buddy today.
He's a sleepy fella after nearly 14 years.
Mr Brick.
Sat through more backyard ultras than most veteran crew members.
Attended races from as far south as Otematata and as far north as Riverhead in Auckland.

Good news if you were one of the guys running last year's backyard ultra world record, which is still the world record ✊️

I had no idea how much things had blown up over the recent race in Russia.

Honestly? Now I am seeing the videos, the Russian race looked like one hell of a party! I would have loved to be there.

But yeah... backyard ultra only has a few rules. They aren't complex, but they are absolute. As Laz says "There is no mercy in a backyard ultra"

Tough call for old Laz to make and I really feel for him, the athletes and the RD. Hopefully the runners will come back stronger and hungrier off the back of this

I have struggled to find the words today after learning of the passing of Matua Ken Raureti (left) which hits all the more hard after the very recent passing of Doctor Ken Kennedy (right). I have an emptiness in my stomach and tears in my eyes.

I was honored to be made chief of Tarawera in 2026 after winning the TMiler in 2025. All the more honored to be welcomed by these two great men who exemplified what it meant to serve their community.
A couple of really good buggers, who I will remember.

Two mighty totara have fallen in the garden of Tāne.
May their light shine on

Doctors tested Kendall's blood immediately after his 300 miles at G1M Ultra and say coach got the electrolytes spot on.

Their original words were "you had his sodium perfect and his potassium only a touch under".

Messages like that are a massive confidence booster that I know what I am doing at a granular level in my coaching.

The furthest you have ever run is the furthest you have ever run.
It might be a 10 km, a marathon, 100 miles or something truly silly like 300+.
Either way, you only get to say "that was the furthest I have ever run" a handful of times in your life.
Celebrate those moments, because they are special and rare.

A pleasure to help all those who would take my pointers as they chased their massive distance PBs at the G1M Ultra this weekend.
Their standards forever raised as they shattered their previous biggest runs.
