Here's some more photos from our last training day!

We ran our first PRS Rimfire training day alongside the last match, and what a day it was.
We had a great mix of shooters turn up, from regulars right through to absolute beginners. Across the day we covered zeroing and data, positional shooting, stage planning and shot process, and it was hugely satisfying to watch everyone improve as the hours went on. By the end, our brand new shooters were stringing together solid stages of good shots, exactly the goal I'd set for them.
Most of the crew stuck around for Sunday's match and showed just how much they'd picked up.
Big shoutout to Campbell Guiney, Thomas Mead and Mark Ludemann for helping out with coaching.

This past weekend Cardrona valley put on some cold but spectacular weather for a training day and round 3 of the SI PRS Rimfire series. With light but switchy winds it made for a perfect weekend out! Thanks to all those who attended and Fraser Mackenzie for the use of the range!

I get a lot of questions about target size so here's some quick methods to pick your targets for precision/long range shooting.

For 22's, take your target distance in meters (or yards for you old buggers), and convert it straight to mm. So at 150m, you'd use a 150mm target. This would be your standard size, and if you want a challenge, go down to half of that (75mm at 150m).

For centerfire it gets a bit more in depth. But for a general starting point your target size is going to be 0.7 x distance.
So for a 500m target, you'd settle for a 350mm. Then from there you can go up and down in size depending on what you're trying to do.
For hunters, I recommend using a target the same size or slightly smaller than the kill zone on an animal, regardless of distance. For a deer shoulder, 300mm is about right. Hope that helps!

The picture is a 200m competition target that was at 200m in roughly 20kmh winds.

2 weeks ago we held round 2 of the South Island PRS Rimfire series at Sparrowhawknz. The sun was out, but so was the wind. Everyone pushed on through, even the new shooters, and achieved some pretty respectable hit percentages.

Sunday – Round 3, South Island Series PRS Rimfire match
10-12 round stages, out to 200m, 10 stages for the day. Support available for new & youth shooters.
