Great day of cricket to mark the end of an excellent first season for the Mavericks. #4 placed Mavericks beat the #3 placed Strikers in an exciting play-off match.

Great win by the boys today in a nail biter against the Sri Lankan Gladiators. Batting first we got out very cheaply for 116. With the ball the boys made a good start with Taj Kahlon picking up 4 wickets in the first 4 overs. The Gladiators kept slowly chipping away at the total while we kept taking wickets. It came down to Gladiators needing 2 runs to win with 2 wickets in hand, when skipper Mukesh Chandra sent everyone into frenzy getting the 2 wickets in 2 balls! The MVP of the game had to be Taj Kahlon for his excellent bowling!

After two back to back rain cancellations, we finally got a game today against Taita Fireblades. And what a game it was! Batting first we lost early wickets, 72-5 at one stage. Then came a mammoth effort by Parvinder Sidhu and Saro Goplakrishnan who put on a 150 run partnership. Sidhu scoring a dazzling 109*(off 102) and Saro making a classical 51, taking the team total to 253/6 after 40 overs. Not to be outdone by the great batting display, Barathy Murthi ended up snagging the MVP with unreal bowling figures of 6/51 in 8 overs. Fireblades were restricted to 188/9 in their 40 overs.
Also memorable day for Sachin who made his official Mavericks debut today at the young age of only 11. Sachin bowled 3 overs in senior grade for only 17 runs. Bright future ahead for this youngster ✊

The team celebrated vice captain Wamiq's birthday with a convincing 8 wicket win over Easts Shoe Clinic. Saro Gopalakrishnan was the star with the ball (4/23) while Rohit Saini was imposing with the bat yet again (47 of 29). Awesome day for the whole team!

The team will be competing in our first T20 tournament being organised by Sikh Sports Club on 2-3 January. The tournament will be held in Petone Recreation ground and will showcase teams from all over NZ.
