Joel Yates and the Invercargill Blues Rugby League family have rallied the troops! We have our first girls Under 14 League side. We are asking the community for help to give these young woman a chance to run out in style.
Most have never played a game of league, it would be awesome to show them the community is backing them to do the damage!
Up the Blues!

In 2025 we brought over 40 new kids to the game.
In 2026 we will be bringing at least that many new kids, plus we retained the vast majority of those first 40.
Southland Rugby League continues to grow.
From 879 participants in 2025 to 1,086 in 2026, our game has grown by 23.5% in just 12 months.
Thank you to our clubs, schools, volunteers, whānau, partners and funders who continue to support rugby league across Southland.

Invercargill Blues Rugby League is a family run club, founded by league lovers and funded by family connections.
In Year 1 - 2025/26 over 40 children pulled on a Blues Eels Jersey. Some have gone on to other passions and we champion that, those who stayed have brought new kids to the club.
In Year 2 - 2026/27 we are growing, a new Under 8s possibly 2. Last years 8s are 10s. Last year’s 10s will be 12s in Feb 2027 and we are building our very first girls team for Under 14s.
None of this would be possible without:
Invercargill Blues Rugby Club
Eyre Whanau
āhei
Richard Affleck Building Limited
Archgola Southland
KB Motorcycles - Invercargill
FlourBro Sourdough Bakery
And the Mums and Dads who turn up to hold the pads and blow up balls and cheer on the children.

Congratulations John, one of the greatest contributors in Southland to sports!
100 Senior Games for John Pfeifer! 👏
This weekend, John Pfeifer reaches an incredible milestone as he takes charge of the Division 3 Semi Final between DLS and Marist, officiating his 100th senior match.
John is someone held in the highest regard throughout our refereeing community. His integrity, humility and unwavering commitment to rugby have earned the respect of everyone he meets. More than an outstanding referee, John is a person of exceptional character whose selfless contribution to community sport is nothing short of extraordinary.
The Rugby Southland Referees whānau are incredibly fortunate to have had John alongside us for so many years. Congratulations on reaching 100 senior games, a milestone that reflects your dedication, passion and service to the game.
Enjoy every moment this weekend, John. You’ve more than earned it. 🫡

If you say nothing, you can't be upset with the outcome. Either way have your say.
🐏 WE WANT YOUR THOUGHTS!
Southland Rugby League is looking at ways to give our juniors more rugby league during the second half of 2026.
SRL is exploring a one-day U8, U10, U11 and U12 tournament on Sunday 11 October, one week before Global Games.
Before anything is confirmed, we want to hear from our clubs, parents and wider rugby league community.
Would your child or team play? Would you prefer a one-day tournament or a short competition? What format would work best for your whānau?
Drop your thoughts in the comments or message the page. Let’s shape the next junior league opportunity together! 🏉🤙
