Kia ora koutou katoa,
With rugby season fast approaching, it’s time to start planning for the year ahead.
If Selwyn Park School is to field its own rugby teams again this season, we will need parents/caregivers who are keen to take on coaching and/or team management roles. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to lead the organising this year.
Traditionally, Selwyn Park School has entered three teams:
• Rippa Rugby (U7s)
• U9s
• U11s
(Age as at 1 April)
The Northern Wairoa Rugby Muster is tentatively scheduled for 13 March. This is where clubs come together to complete registrations, and this year there will also be a tackle clinic for the U9s and U11s.
The first round of competition is expected to start on 20 March.
Selwyn Park School has a strong and proud history of being the only primary school in the area to run its own rugby teams independently, rather than being aligned to a local club. This is something to be proud of, and I sincerely hope we can continue this tradition. Tamariki do not need to be attending the school to play in these sports teams.
If we are unable to field school teams this season, any children wishing to play rugby will need to register with an alternative club of their choice at the Muster.
If you have any questions or would like guidance around any of the above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Finally, we have a number of outstanding rugby uniforms from last season. These need to be returned to the school as soon as possible. I do have a list of outstanding items and will be following up where required.
Ngā mihi nui,
Emma Vea
