I don’t usually swear this much, but it was pretty on-brand for F**k Up Nights at The Grid Auckland last Thursday

I shared one of my business f**k-ups and the lesson I took from it: do your bloody numbers first.

I’d researched the idea, tested it, and was completely invested in making it work. But I missed one of the most important parts of the equation.

It didn’t work out, but it taught me a lesson I still use in business today.

I don't usually swear this much, but I was given full permission to at F*** Up Nights (very on brand)

Got up and shared my first big business f***-up (and lived to tell the tale). The main lesson? Do your bloody numbers first!!!

Learn it the easy way, not the hard way like I did

Being busy can feel like a good thing, but busy doesn’t always mean profitable.

Not every client, service or product is worth keeping if it’s taking more time, energy and resources than it brings back.

Take a closer look at what’s actually making you money, what’s eating into your margins, and what might need to change.

Revenue is only part of the picture. Profit matters.

What am I actually good at?
For a long time, I wasn't sure.
I wasn't the best swimmer, runner or artist at school. But I realised I was really good at bringing people together, seeing their potential and helping them rise to greatness.
And I was crackingly good at business.
That combination eventually led me to becoming a business coach, where I now help business owners understand their numbers, make better decisions and build businesses that are profitable without burning themselves out.
Sometimes, you don't need to be the best at everything. You just need to find the things you're really, really good at. ✨

Last week I had the privilege of meeting the Prime Minister Christopher Luxon at the Blue Light Ball.

At 15, I was out of school, out of home, and learning life the hard way. I was fortunate to find my own path, but not every young person gets that chance.

That’s why organisations like New Zealand Blue Light matter. They provide mentoring, opportunities and practical support that can genuinely change a young person’s future.

Martin did a fantastic job as MC, and it was an incredible evening raising funds for a cause that makes a real difference.

As a business coach, I’m always talking about ROI. Nights like this remind me that the greatest investment you’ll ever make is in people.

Who was the person who believed in you when you needed it most? 💙

Excited to now be a frequent contributor for the Pro Collective publication.
Check out the first article in the series about The Emotional Labor involved in working at a salon.

If you are a professional in this industry, let me know if you resonate with this, and if you are the one in the chair its worth a read to get a deeper insight into the topic.

✨ A must-visit clinic in Hamilton! ✨

If you’re a woman, do yourself a favour and check out Cellara. They’re helping women feel healthier, happier and more confident with services many of us don’t even know exist.

Every woman should know about this place. 💙

Two days at a conference surrounded by sticky notes, coloured pens, random props, big thinkers and even bigger ideas… my kind of fun! 🤣

I’ve spent the last couple of days learning new skills, discovering new tools, and filling my brain with ideas that will help me better support the amazing business owners I work with.

The world changes quickly. Business changes even quicker.

If I’m asking my clients to keep growing, adapting and improving, then I need to do exactly the same.

My biggest takeaway?

The businesses that thrive aren’t always the smartest or the biggest. They’re the ones willing to stay curious, keep learning, and adapt when the world changes around them.

Now excuse me while I unpack a suitcase full of conference notes and work out which ideas are brilliant and which ones sounded brilliant after three coffees. ☕😂
