Indian classical dance is more than art—it’s rhythm, grace, and storytelling that uplifts and connects us to a deeper dimension in life.

Varaveena Dance Company’s mission is for all art lovers in Auckland to experience the purest essence of Bharatanatyam.

A little dancer with a big love for Bharatanatyam. Dakshina Prejil - Daughter of Prejil Purushan and Revathy Rajendrababu 🌸

One of my favorite moments in this beautiful composition on Andal (a famous 9th-century Hindu woman saint, a poet, and the only female among the 12 Alvars of South India.) is the entrance itself—a section she and I really enjoy every single time.

A day of hard work, courage, and beautiful dancing. ❤️🙏

At Varaveena Dance Company, we believe the real victory lies in disciplined practice, respect for the art, and becoming a better dancer than you were yesterday. Every student who stepped onto that stage achieved something valuable, regardless of the result.

That said, I couldn’t be prouder to share that our students were awarded First Prize in every Bharatanatyam Solo category. 🏆✨

This achievement is not just about winning. It reflects months of dedication, countless hours of practice, the unwavering support of parents, and the commitment of each student to learning Bharatanatyam with sincerity and authenticity.

Congratulations to all our winners, and well done to every performer. Keep learning, stay humble, and let your love for Bharatanatyam always be your greatest achievement.

With gratitude to My gurus, our team of teachers , parents, Auckland Malayali Samajam Incorporated, and everyone who continues to support the journey of Varaveena Dance Company. ❤️

Coming to Bharatanatyam or any dance class as an adult takes a lot.

Life is busy. Work, family, responsibilities, tiredness, and endless noise can easily take over. And yet, something still brings you to class. Maybe it is your love for dance. Maybe it is nostalgia. Maybe it is the wish to reconnect with a dream you once carried. Or maybe it is simply the need for one space that belongs only to you.
But what keeps you there?
Not motivation alone, because motivation comes and goes.
It is discipline.

It is the decision to show up even on the days when you feel tired, when your mind is full, when work has drained you, and when life pulls you in many directions.

Consistency shapes a dancer more than any sudden burst of motivation ever can.
At Varaveena Dance Company, we believe progress is built slowly and beautifully. Class by class. Step by step. Adavu by adavu. Expression by expression. Every small effort becomes part of something bigger.
For adult learners, dance is not just about performance. It is about discipline, confidence, culture, grace, fitness, memory, expression, and finding joy in your own journey.
It is never too late to begin.

And it is never too much to continue.
Join us at Varaveena Dance Company and begin your dance journey with us.

Adavus are often practiced in chaturasra jaati - a 4 beat cycle, but growth begins when we challenge body and mind to step into unfamiliar. Here, our few students from Anantara batch explores the mishra jaati — a seven-beat cycle.

Dancers: Tanvi, Nandita, Janaki, and Aparna 💫

Oh—and in the background, you can spot our very dedicated adult students practicing 💝
