THE STORY BEHIND ESL
Before it became a tournament, before the teams, the fixtures and the competition, ESL began with a name that meant something deeply personal to us.
Richa Shrestha was part of a family closely connected with Nepal cricket. Her father served with the Cricket Association of Nepal, while her brothers Unil Shrestha and Manjeet Shrestha both contributed to Nepal cricket as players and in leadership and coaching roles.
Closer to home, Richa was the beloved wife of our club president and the sister of our former player Bikesh Shrestha. She was part of the family and community around Expert Sagarmatha Blues long before a memorial tournament carried her name.
Following her passing, the Richa Memorial Expert Sagarmatha League was created not simply as another cricket competition, but as a way to remember her, honour her life, and bring people together through the game that connected so many around her.
What began as a tribute has grown into something much bigger.
Over the years, ESL has brought together cricket clubs, players, families, supporters and the wider Nepalese community in Victoria. Every match, every team and every edition has helped carry Richa's memory forward.
And now, as we prepare for the 6th Edition of the Richa Memorial Expert Sagarmatha League, the purpose remains the same.
To remember.
To bring people together.
And to keep her name and legacy alive through cricket.
This is more than a tournament.
