The Anyama Fe Atie Oge festival has its origins from the 1967 Nigerian civil war when two (2) Biafran Army units, one stationed in Anyama and another advancing from Yenagoa by river, mistakenly engaged each other in a fierce gun battle after each side believed it was confronting federal troops.
The gunfire forced residents of Anyama to flee into nearby forests for safety and returning back to the community with no loss of lives and properties, despite several casualties amongst the service men, and undoubtedly convinced that their survival was a divine miracle, the elders proclaimed 1st, August 1967, as Anyama Fe Atei Oge Festival Day, a tradition that has been observed annually ever since, and evolving into a week-long cultural celebration.
