WHAT IS WRONG WITH TOTTENHAM?

1. They still don't look like a team.
Roberto De Zerbi himself admitted after the Brentford defeat that Spurs were “not a team yet.” With so many new players arriving, the chemistry and understanding simply aren't there yet.

2. The attack lacks cutting edge.
Against Newcastle, Spurs actually had periods where they controlled the game and created opportunities, particularly in the first half. But they couldn't turn that possession into goals. That's worrying because you can't dominate games and repeatedly leave the pitch with nothing.

3. Too many new players, too quickly.
Spurs have spent around £300m+ rebuilding the squad. Sandro Tonali, Omar Marmoush and several other new arrivals are still adapting to De Zerbi's football. Money can improve a squad, but it doesn't automatically create chemistry.

4. They collapse when the opponent scores.
This is perhaps the biggest concern. Against Newcastle, Spurs were competitive for roughly an hour, but after Anthony Elanga's 62nd-minute goal, Newcastle took control and Wissa added another. Spurs couldn't produce the response you'd expect from a side trying to rebuild itself.

5. De Zerbi has a huge tactical job on his hands.
His possession-based football requires players to understand positioning, rotations and pressing triggers. At the moment, Tottenham look like individuals trying to execute a system rather than a fully functioning unit.

A team can lose two matches while showing encouraging signs. Tottenham have lost two matches without scoring once, and that makes the problem much more serious.

If this continues for another few games, the conversation will quickly move from “new team needs time” to **“is De Zerbi actually building the right team?”**

Liverpool dropped points in frustrating fashion, drawing 2–2 with Nottingham Forest in a performance that left plenty of questions.

The biggest concern was not simply the result — it was the overall performance. Liverpool looked unusually ordinary for long periods, struggling to control the game with the authority we normally associate with them.

Their attacking play lacked sharpness, the build-up was often predictable, and the intensity that usually makes Liverpool so dangerous was missing. Even when they had possession, they struggled to consistently turn it into clear-cut opportunities.

Defensively, Liverpool also looked vulnerable. Nottingham Forest showed courage and punished Liverpool whenever spaces appeared, making the Reds work far harder than they probably expected.

A 2–2 draw against Forest is disappointing, but the bigger issue is the manner of the performance. Liverpool cannot afford to become a team that dominates possession without creating enough danger.

PSG still dominate possession and can control matches for long periods, but something seems to be missing in the final third. The quick combinations, movements between the lines and constant creation of dangerous chances that made them so difficult to defend against seem less consistent now.

The worrying part is that having 70%+ possession doesn't necessarily mean you're creating enough danger. Opponents are increasingly comfortable defending deep, staying compact and waiting for PSG to make a mistake.

PSG still have quality throughout their squad, but their attacking play currently looks more predictable. They are often moving the ball from side to side without finding that final pass or individual action capable of opening up the defence.

And when chances do come, they aren't always clear-cut.

Could this be a temporary early-season problem, or have teams finally found a way to neutralise PSG's attacking system?

Because if PSG cannot turn their possession into consistent high-quality chances, they could struggle against stronger European opposition later in the season.

Michael Olise continued his impressive start to the new season as Bayern Munich opened their Bundesliga title defence with a commanding 5–1 victory over Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena.

Olise was one of Bayern's most influential players throughout the match. He hit the post with a free-kick in the first half before restoring Bayern's lead in the 55th minute with a composed finish after a brilliant pass from Joshua Kimmich.

He later had another goal ruled out for a narrow offside and played a key role in the build-up to Aleksandar Pavlović's fourth goal.

His performance earned him 65% of the Man of the Match vote, comfortably making him the standout player of the game.

Bayern's other goals came from Dayot Upamecano, Aleksandar Pavlović and Luis Díaz, while Josha Vagnoman scored for Stuttgart before putting through his own net.

Olise is already looking like one of Bayern's biggest weapons this season.
