NIGER TORNADOES HOLD NERVE TO EDGE ENYIMBA IN NPFL27 OPENER

Niger Tornadoes began their NPFL27 campaign on a winning note after edging Enyimba FC 2–1 in a nervy season opener at the renovated Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.

Michael Olalusi’s superb late strike proved decisive as the Ikon Allah Boys held their nerve to secure all three points in an entertaining contest.

The match began cautiously, but the intensity gradually increased midway through the first half as Tornadoes started creating openings in the Enyimba defence.

Ismail Sarki and Rickson Mendos caused problems for the visitors’ backline with their attacking movements, but the hosts were unable to convert their early chances.

Tornadoes eventually got their reward in the 40th minute when Sarki was brought down inside the penalty area, prompting the referee to point to the spot.

Aliyu Mohammed Goyi stepped up and confidently converted the penalty, sending the Enyimba goalkeeper the wrong way to put the hosts ahead.

Tornadoes went into the half-time break with a 1–0 advantage and returned with renewed determination to extend their lead.
However, Enyimba gradually grew into the game and began to find spaces in the Tornadoes defence. Their persistence paid off in the 71st minute when Wonah Williams rose highest to head home a well-delivered free-kick from Iheme Peculiar, restoring parity.

With the game finely poised, the Tornadoes technical bench responded with attacking changes, introducing Bashir Usman and Michael Olalusi in a bid to regain control.

The substitutions paid immediate dividends.
Olalusi produced the decisive moment in the 82nd minute, showing composure and pace to evade his markers before unleashing a well-placed effort that found its way beneath the Enyimba goalkeeper and into the net.

The goal sparked celebrations among the home supporters as Tornadoes successfully protected their lead through the closing stages to claim a valuable three points.

Dogo: Victory Well Deserved
Niger Tornadoes Technical Adviser, Coach Kabiru Suleiman Dogo, described the victory as well deserved, saying the team worked hard to earn the result.

He commended the supporters and football stakeholders across Niger State for their backing and called for continued support throughout the season.

Dogo also expressed optimism that the team would improve further as more players become cleared and available for selection.
