The first thing everyone noticed when Team USA played China in the FIBA Women’s World Cup was Zhang Ziyu.

At 7-foot-3, the Chinese phenom towered over everyone on the court, instantly becoming the matchup everyone was watching.

But once the game got underway, it became clear that her height was only the beginning.

Zhang is taller than nearly 99% of active NBA players, giving her a physical advantage that is almost impossible to replicate in practice.

Defenders have to contest shots from a completely different angle, while passes into the paint can turn into easy opportunities simply because of the space she can cover.

She doesn’t need to create much separation to get a shot off because her release point is already above most defenders, and her reach makes it difficult to bother her around the basket.

That kind of size changes the geometry of the floor.

It forces opponents to think twice about driving into the paint, crashing the boards, and even where they position themselves defensively.

Every possession becomes a different kind of challenge.

And at 7-foot-3, how do you even defend her? 👀

The NBA’s young stars are getting PAID.

Teams are locking up their young cornerstones before they even hit their prime, betting millions on what they could become.

Jalen Williams and Paolo Banchero both landed $239 MILLION guaranteed, with triggers that could take each deal all the way to $287 MILLION.
