The Permanent Secretary and Overseer, Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs. Dorcas I. B. Tanko, today led the Ministry’s management on an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS).

The team was received by the Project Manager, Mr. Alex Odulano, who briefed the Permanent Secretary on the progress of work and expressed confidence that the project would be completed as scheduled, in view of the strong commitment of the Kaduna State Government under Governor Uba Sani.

The Permanent Secretary expressed satisfaction with the progress and described the reconstruction as a legacy project of Governor Uba Sani, commending his commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.

She noted that the completed stadium will support talent development, attract major sporting events, create economic opportunities and contribute to the socio-economic development of Kaduna State.

The Permanent Secretary and Overseer of the Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs. Dorcas I. B. Tanko is currently leading staff of the Ministry on the weekly keep fit exercise as part of efforts to promote healthy living, physical fitness, and staff wellbeing.

The exercise has brought together members of staff from various departments in an atmosphere of unity, teamwork, and wellness.

TEAM KADUNA RETAINS NATIONAL HOCKEY SUPER LEAGUE TITLES

Team Kaduna has once again affirmed its dominance in Nigerian hockey as Kada Stars (Male Team) and Kada Queens (Female Team) successfully defended their National Hockey Super League titles at the 2026 finals held, today, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Kada Stars (Male) clinched a record fifth consecutive league title with a hard-fought 3–2 victory over Plateau Tigers, while Kada Queens (Female) secured their fourth straight championship with a convincing 2–0 win over Plateau Queens.

Addressing journalists after the finals, the Head of the Delegation from the Kaduna State Ministry of Sports Development, Mal. Aminu Adamu, Director of Administration and Finance, congratulated the players, coaches, and technical crew for their outstanding performances. He also commended Governor Uba Sani for his unwavering support for sports development, noting that the administration's sustained investment in sports continues to produce champions and reinforce Kaduna State's position as a powerhouse in Nigerian hockey.

TEAM KADUNA CONTINUES DOMINANT RUN AT NATIONAL HOCKEY SUPER LEAGUE

Continuing from their impressive opening-day victories, defending champions Kada Queens and Kada Stars recorded another set of commanding wins today at the 2026 National Hockey Super League in Abuja.

Kada Queens defeated IGP Babes 4–0, while Kada Stars thrashed IGP Flickers 8–0 to maintain Team Kaduna's unbeaten run.

The victories reflect the Kaduna State Government's sustained commitment to sports development under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani.

TEAM KADUNA OPENS NATIONAL HOCKEY SUPER LEAGUE WITH COMMANDING VICTORIES

Defending champions Kada Queens and Kada Stars began their title defence in style at the 2026 National Hockey Super League in Abuja, recording victories in their opening matches.

Kada Queens delivered a dominant 6–0 win over Southwest, while Kada Stars followed with an impressive 4–0 victory against the same opponents to complete a perfect start for Team Kaduna.

The outstanding performances reflect the continued investment of the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, in sports development and athlete welfare. The victories further reinforce Kaduna State's reputation as a leading force in Nigerian hockey.

Team Kaduna will continue their campaign today, with Kada Queens taking on IGP Babes at 12:30 p.m., while Kada Stars will face IGP Flickers at 4:00 p.m. as they aim to maintain their winning momentum.

KADA STARS, KADA QUEENS CLINCH DOUBLE TITLES AT WEST AFRICA HOCKEY CHALLENGE CUP IN GHANA

Kada Stars and Kada Queens have emerged champions of the male and female categories respectively at the 2026 Median HFS West Africa Invitational Challenge Cup held in Accra, Ghana.

The Kaduna-based hockey teams delivered exceptional performances throughout the tournament, defeating Ghanaian sides Ark Men and Ark Ladies in the finals to secure a remarkable double victory for Nigeria.

Kada Stars produced a commanding performance to defeat Ark Men 5-0 in the men’s final, while Kada Queens recorded a narrow but deserved 1-0 victory over Ark Ladies to clinch the women’s title.

The tournament, organised by Hockey Farm Sports in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority Sports Unit and the Ghana Hockey Federation, featured leading hockey clubs from across West Africa and served as a platform for strengthening regional sporting relations, player development, and international competitive exposure.

The triumph of the Kaduna teams has been widely hailed as a reflection of the Kaduna State Government’s sustained commitment to sports development under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, whose administration continues to provide support for athlete participation and the advancement of sports across the State.

Earlier today, the Kaduna State male and female Hockey Teams departed from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for the West African Hockey Challenge Cup scheduled to hold in Accra, Ghana.

The Permanent Secretary and Overseer of the Ministry of Sports Development, Mrs. Dorcas Inti Benjamin Tanko, urged the team to remain disciplined and represent Kaduna State with excellence and sportsmanship.

She also conveyed the support of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Uba Sani, whose administration has continued to demonstrate strong commitment to sports development through consistent support for athlete participation in national and international competitions, as well as creating opportunities for young talents across the State.
