FFS MAKES HISTORY WITH FIRST NATIONWIDE PRO INDUCTION, UNVEILS PUBLIC RELATIONS CORPS BADGE

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has marked a major milestone in its institutional development with the first coordinated training and induction of Public Relations Officers representing all 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

The milestone was achieved on Friday at a One-Day National Stakeholders’ Summit on Fire Safety and Induction of Federal Fire Service Public Relations Officers, organised by the Federal Fire Service in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and Rightangle Public Relations (RPR) in Abuja.

Held under the theme, “Building a Resilient Fire Service for the 21st Century,” the summit brought together stakeholders from government, security and emergency management agencies, professional bodies, the media and the private sector to discuss the evolving fire safety challenges facing the country and the need for stronger collaboration.

A major highlight of the event was the formal unveiling of the Federal Fire Service Public Relations Corps badge, symbolising the establishment of a coordinated professional communication structure for the Service across the country.

The officers, drawn from the 36 states and the FCT, were formally inducted into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations after undergoing a specialised training programme designed to strengthen their capacity in strategic communication, media relations, crisis communication, public information, stakeholder engagement and reputation management.

The induction included the administration of the professional oath, committing the officers to the ethics and responsibilities of the public relations profession.

Speaking at the summit, the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi,MBA, MDRM, ACTI, FCNA, said the initiative represented a new chapter in the Service’s communication architecture, stressing that effective communication was critical to building public confidence, particularly during emergencies.

He challenged the newly inducted officers to use professionalism, accuracy, transparency and timely communication to strengthen public understanding of the Fire Service and help address longstanding misconceptions about the institution.

The Guest Lecturer, Dr. Omoniyi P. Ibietan,fnipr, Secretary-General of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), brought a professional and strategic perspective to the summit, highlighting the growing importance of communication in institutional resilience and public trust.

The President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, who formally inducted the officers, urged them to uphold the ethical standards of the profession and recognise their responsibility as the public voice of the Federal Fire Service.

The event also featured the presentation of an Award of Excellence in recognition of outstanding contribution to fire resilience, while the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) delivered a charge to the newly inducted officers, urging them to approach their responsibilities with discipline, professionalism and a strong commitment to public service.

The summit further provided an opportunity for stakeholders to underscore the shared responsibility for fire safety and the need for Nigerians to support emergency responders, particularly by giving firefighting appliances the right of way, keeping access routes clear and avoiding actions that could obstruct emergency operations.

For the Federal Fire Service, the occasion carried an added significance as it coincided with the first anniversary of the assumption of office of the Controller-General, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, who assumed office on 14 August 2025.

The event therefore marked not only a milestone in the professionalisation of the Service’s public relations structure, but also a defining moment in its continuing efforts to build a more responsive, resilient and publicly trusted Fire Service.

With the induction of the PROs and the unveiling of the Public Relations Corps badge, the Federal Fire Service now has a coordinated corps of trained Public Relations Officers positioned across the country to strengthen public education, media engagement, strategic communication and stakeholder relations in support of its mandate to protect lives and property.

FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE CONTAINS RESIDENTIAL FIRE IN YALANGURUZA QUARTERS, GOMBE

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, has successfully contained a fire outbreak involving two residential flats at Yalanguruza Quarters, opposite MacConnels Hotel, Gombe State, on Thursday, 13 August 2026.

The Command received a distress call at about 1503hrs, prompting the mobilisation of the FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender from ATM Fire Station at 1508hrs. The crew arrived at the scene at approximately 1515hrs and immediately commenced firefighting operations.

The fire affected two residential flats comprising several rooms, covering an estimated area of 50 by 100 metres. The fire was successfully extinguished using one medium jet supplied from the FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender.

The prompt intervention prevented further spread of the fire, salvaging property estimated at ₦150 million, while property worth approximately ₦80 million was lost. Fortunately, no casualty was recorded.

The operation was led by ASF I. Gambo Mohammed, with ASF II Mu'azu Tagwai as the driver, alongside other crew members. Personnel of the Gombe State Fire Service and officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Gona Division, also supported the emergency response.

Following the operation, firefighters inspected the premises and confirmed that there was no further fire or immediate threat. The crew and appliance returned to the station at about 1738hrs.

The Federal Fire Service urges members of the public to remain vigilant and observe basic fire safety precautions, particularly in residential areas. Residents are advised to report fire emergencies promptly to the nearest fire station to minimise loss of lives and property.

REBUTTAL: DISOWNING FAKE "CDCFIB RECRUITMENT UPDATE" PRESS RELEASE

The attention of the Ministry of Interior has been drawn to a fake press release circulating on social media and messaging platforms, titled "CDCFIB Recruitment Update," dated 11th August 2026, and falsely attributed to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The document, which claims that the ongoing CDCFIB recruitment exercise has been deferred until after the 2027 general election due to funding constraints did not originate from the Ministry of Interior, the Minister's office, or the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).

The Ministry wishes to state unequivocally that:

1. This press release is fake, unauthorised, and fraudulent. The Minister did not sign or issue this statement.

2. No decision has been made to defer the recruitment exercise until after the 2027 general election.

3. The exercise is ongoing.

4. Members of the public and applicants are strongly advised to disregard this document in its entirety and to rely solely on information published through the Ministry's and CDCFIB's verified platforms, including the official recruitment portal: cdcfib.gov.ng

STATE CONTROLLER VISITS MAKIA, SEEKS SUSTAINED COLLABORATION

The State Controller, Federal Fire Service, Kano State Command, DCF Sadiq Usman Mahmud, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the management of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, where he reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the cordial working relationship between the Federal Fire Service and the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS).

The State Controller was warmly received by the HOD, ARFFS, DGM Ariwodoh Lilian N., alongside other senior officials of the airport. In her remarks, the HOD welcomed the State Controller and expressed the desire to sustain and further strengthen the existing collaboration between both organisations, particularly in the areas of fire safety, emergency preparedness and response.

In his remarks, DCF Sadiq Usman Mahmud commended the airport management and personnel for their dedication, professionalism and preparedness in protecting lives and property within and around the airport. He stressed the importance of maintaining operational readiness and effective coordination, given the critical nature of aviation facilities.

The State Controller also appealed to the airport management to give due attention to the welfare of Federal Fire Service personnel stationed at the airport, noting that improved welfare would further motivate personnel and complement the efforts of the ARFFS in ensuring effective emergency response.

DCF Sadiq further commended Federal Fire Service personnel at the airport for their commitment and the effective working relationship they maintain with their ARFFS counterparts. He urged them to remain steadfast, professional and committed to operational excellence.

The visit underscores the commitment of the Federal Fire Service, Kano State Command, to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and enhancing fire safety, emergency preparedness and the protection of lives and property within the aviation environment.
