Savannah Conference champions A*o Sky Hawks opened their NBPL 2026 Playoffs campaign in impressive fashion, defeating Olumide Oyedeji Hoops & Read 63–57 in a closely contested Game 1 at the Basketball Stadium, Niger Street, Port Harcourt.
The game produced an intense battle from start to finish, with both teams displaying determination and quality basketball. Hoops & Read pushed hard to stay within touching distance, but the Sky Hawks held their composure when it mattered most.
The Savannah Conference champions ultimately secured a six-point victory, sending an early statement of intent as the Playoffs continue.

The 2026 Zenith NBBF Women’s Basketball League tips off this weekend across two centres, with 16 teams battling for a place in the national finals.

The Atlantic Conference will be held in Surulere, Lagos (August 15-22), featuring defending champions Dolphins, First Bank, MFM, IGP Queens, First Deep Waters, Bayelsa Blue Whales, debutants Victoria Queens and Royal Aces.

The Savannah Conference takes place in Rayfield, Jos, Plateau State (August 17-24), with Nigeria Customs, Titans, Nasarawa Amazons, Kada Angels, Plateau Rocks, Air Warriors, Ham Warriors and debutants A*o Sky Queens in action.

The top four teams from each conference will qualify for the finals in Lagos, while Phase 2 of the league is expected to dunk off in the first week of September, with Rivers State in contention to host.

Teams to watch: Debutants A*o Sky Queens and Victoria Queens, powerhouses MFM and First Bank.
