Chess has officially entered the school curriculum in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, bringing the game and its educational benefits to students in Grades 7–9. The initiative includes a dedicated curriculum, teacher training programs, and support from educational and chess institutions across the region.

FIDE invites senior players from around the world to compete in the World Senior Individual Chess Championships, which will take place in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, from November 2–15, 2026.

The event will feature four categories:
🏆 Open 50+ and Women 50+
🏆 Open 65+ and Women 65+

Players will compete in 11-round Swiss-system tournaments with classical time control. The total prize fund has been increased to €50,000.

🏆♟️ DINA’S CHAMPIONSHIP JOURNEY ♟️🏆

✨ THE BEGINNING NO ONE NOTICED

🔹 Dina Belenkaya entered the tournament as a player few people paid attention to. The field was full of strong names, many with higher ratings and far more experience. To most spectators, Dina was simply an outsider — someone who might create a small surprise but was unlikely to go very far.

⚡ But from the very first round, Dina showed something different. She didn’t play cautiously just to avoid losing. She played with confidence, constantly creating complicated positions that forced her opponents to make mistakes. Her first victory came sooner than many expected, and people began to notice.

♟️ THE TOUGHER ROUNDS

🔥 As the tournament moved into the later rounds, the pressure grew. Opponents prepared more carefully and studied Dina’s style. Yet in every game she found a new way to fight: sometimes with bold attacks, sometimes with patient endgame play.

⏳ In one critical game, the clock dropped to just a few seconds. The position looked like a draw, but Dina spotted a small idea. A simple pawn push… yet it opened a tactical sequence that her opponent could not handle in time.

That game changed the entire tournament.

🔥 THE FINAL

🏁 By the time the final match arrived, Dina was no longer the overlooked player. Many spectators now believed she truly had a chance to win the title. Still, the game was extremely tense. One mistake could destroy the entire journey.

♟️ At the decisive moment, Dina chose a bold move — one that many players would not dare to try in a championship game.

⚔️ A few moves later, the position clearly shifted in her favor.

⏳ When her opponent finally resigned, the playing hall fell silent for a few seconds… before the applause began.

🏆 THE CHAMPION

✨ From an unnoticed player in the opening round… Dina had become the champion. Not because of luck, but because of courage, creativity, and belief in herself.

Sometimes the player with the smallest expectations at the beginning… is the one holding the trophy at the end. 🏆🔥
