I saw a really long snake in our garden morning. I was walking past what I thought was the hose (it was the same color), when it suddenly started moving! I am sure it is a harmless red racer (also known as a coachwhip). Apparently they eat rattle snakes, rodents and scorpions, so I am happy to have it living in my garden. It is pretty long, though!

Shopping at Rodriguez Fruiteria on a blistering hot day. 157 pesos for a bag of fruit and a free Frozen mango refreshment (por el calor - for the heat). One of the many reasons why I love living in Mexico.

Inside Mariscos La Morena on San Felipe's Malecón is this beautiful memorial to "La Morena," Xóchitl Pérez Jaques, who tragically died following a motor vehicle collision on Highway 5 at kilometre 102 in July 2024.
She founded and built one of San Felipe's best-known seafood restaurants and was widely respected in the community.
I'd love to learn more about her story. I've heard from several local people that she started with nothing more than a small seafood cart before eventually opening the restaurant.
Does anyone know more about her life or how Mariscos La Morena began?

Waiting with great excitement to watch the soccer match between Mexico and South Africa! I was born in South Africa, and I live in Mexico. So whoever wins, I'm happy. Nací en Sudáfrica, y vivo en México. Así que gane quien gane, estoy feliz.

Driving on Highway 5 from San Felipe to Mexicali, San Felipe, we were reminded of why you have to drive with a lot of care on this fairly narrow highway. We were also reminded of why we never drive this highway at night.

Good news for residents of San Felipe, Baja California, is that the roads north of the security stop at km 141 from Mexicali are being repaired. While this is in progress, we had to drive with great care through the roadworks yesterday.

Melodie Honey has created a beautiful oasis of entertainment in the San Felipe desert - the Parrothead Playground :) With the help of many friends, as she always tells people.
