Songwe Border United, Extreme FC still chasing each other after both register wins in Matchweek 7
Songwe Border United and Extreme FC are still chasing each other as both have registered wins in Matchweek 7 of the NBS Bank National Division League (NDL).
Songwe Border beat Chilobwe United 2-0 at Karonga Stadium to amass 16 points and one ahead of Extreme FC, who triumphed 1-0 against Bangwe All Stars at Owen Malijani Stadium.
Songwe took the lead in the 11th minute through Emmanuel Munthali assisted by Tendai Phiri. Emmanuel Munthali then assisted Tendai to make it 2-0 in the 37th.
The lone goal result for Extreme was achieved very late in the game through Matthews Mtalakwesi after receiving a good pass from Limbani Kalumba, to amass 15 points.
Elsewhere at Rumphi Stadium — in a battle of immediate past top flight football 2025 season contestants — Mzuzu City Hammers thrashed Mighty Tigers 4-0 to condemning the Tigers to remain on the unenviable relegation 10th position.
The Tigers have found the 2nd tier league very competitive as they have amassed just 6 points from one win and three draws and the loss this Sunday afternoon.
Mzuzu City Hammers opened the floodgates in the 37th when Phillip Mtika headed home a fantastic cross from Hassan Luwembe delivers before Christopher Chulu made it 2-0 in the 45+1.
Six minutes after the restart, Mtika claimed his brace after reacting well to a pass from Christopher Chulu, who also scored a brace to make it 4-0 in the 61th — with Mtika providing the assist.
Mzuzu City Hammers move from 9th place to 6th place, displacing Ntaja United, who lost 1-2 to FOMO FC at Balaka Stadium.
Ntaja were first to score as early as the 4th minute through a beautiful finish by Hussein Sanudi from an intelligent cross from Adam Alieh.
It took up to the 57th minute for FOMO to equalise when Sebastian Chinsomba easy tapped in a great effort from Divason Daud and were 2-1 up in the 73rd through Shadreck Mikunde’s beautiful header.
The result pushes FOMO to 5th place from 7th with 11 points, sharing with Ndirande Stars, who beat lost 1-2 to Embangweni United on at Mzuzu Stadium
Embangweni amassed 13 points and were first to score two minutes after half time through Robert Chipeta but two minutes later, Ndirande Stars equalised through Rafick Alli, assisted by Moses Gunde.
Embangweni United restored their lead in the 79 through Robert Chipeta when Ndirande Stars goalkeeper failed to clear the danger in the box.
Namitete Zitha amassed 8 points after a 1-1 draw with 11th-placed Changalume Barracks at Zomba Stadium.
Namitete were first on the scoresheet in the 12th minute when Thomas Mangwere lofted the ball over Changalume defence for Howard Moses to latch on to it to finish.
In the 46th, Changalume equalised from kick off of the second half when they launched a sweeping attack that saw Amidu Mapira send a perfect pass to Leo Kaira who finished.
