The EUAA has published its latest Country of Origin Information (COI) report on Sudan, examining political, judicial and human rights developments in the country as well as the socio-economic situation in Khartoum.
Report highlights:
🔷More than three years into the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Sudan faces increasingly fragmented authority across the country.
🔷 Judicial institutions have been severely disrupted: their functioning reportedly decreased by 95% since the start of the conflict in April 2023.
🔷 Civilians continue to be significantly impacted by the conflict, as widespread reports of human rights violations are reported, including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, torture and sexual violence.
🔷 Cases of sexual and gender-based violence increased by 350% between the start of the hostilities and mid-2025.
🔷 The war has also severely affected living conditions in Khartoum. By April 2026, an estimated 70% of Sudan's population was living in poverty, while, as of February 2026, around 29 million people required humanitarian food assistance.
The report provides relevant country information to support EU+ asylum authorities in assessing applications for international protection lodged by Sudanese nationals.
