If you don't fight for what you love,
don't cry for what you loose.

Interview with Azuma Takashi: My foundation
From Part 2 :
・The name of “KUDO” is composed by two characters. The first character “KU” superficially means “nothingness” and “sky”, but its deep interpretation includes such nuances as “freedom”, “eternity”, and “infinite expanse”. Therefore, “DO”, which means the “way”, is a road to “KU” with the meaning of “a method to reach infinite expanse by having a free mind without being bound by greed and selfishness”. I think it’s a good brand name that indicates the readiness to “accept everything without being particular about it”.
・Pros and cons of competition popularization among minors.・・・・Considering the risk of accumulating brain damage through a long competitive life, without 10 - 20 years substantive long-term study results head punching rules should not be adopted, even if this is the way to bring up a handful of elite athletes. Children cannot be used as guinea pigs for experiments. Considering mental and physical growth of the youngsters, I want people to be very cautious about promoting the competition to minors and introducing adult rules to minor divisions.
From Part 3 &4 :
・The original idea was, “in the streets, people usually wear clothes, so if you are to create a competition format with the motif of fighting in the street, it would make sense to wear a Dogi”. It is also a big advantage that you can grab a clothes (Dogi) and hit with your head or elbows, which is physically impossible if you wear boxing gloves or do not wear clothes. I did not want to foul these techniques considering the real fighting in the street motif of the competition.
・MMA and competition in boxing gloves (like kickboxing) are great competition formats by themselves, and there is a sort of closeness so that Kudo athletes can compete in those formats, but that does not mean that Kudo have to challenge them and be compared with them.
・I think that Budo plays a role in fostering the humanity required for living in society. This is the ultimate purpose of Budo, including Kudo, and the competition is a medium to reach it. Since Budo, we are practicing, is to hone our fighting skills, even more so, “think about contributing to your outside (society), not just think about getting stronger personally”. I want to stress this policy. The policy of “social physical education” should not be changed.
・If we decide take into account the opinion of overseas NFs and other organizations, the distribution of “social physical education” policy, which is my ultimate goal for Kudo, will become more or less diffused, and I feel that changes in management policy and competition rules may occur. Therefore, Japan’s Daido-juku should control Kudo until this policy become unshaken and then gradually shift Kudo governing system from close to open in appropriate pace.
・Japan must keep control of Daido-juku, as in Kudo federation it is a division that preserves the history and tradition of Budo. Regarding Kudo federation, Japan should take a lead for the time being on the international scale until the stage when social physical education and Budo are established as a solid foundation, and then Japan does not have to be the top but rather decided by the free choice at the discretion of that generation weather there is a merit in being led by Japan.
