The first thing you should build is your dog's **focus on you**. Without focus, even the best cues become much harder for your dog to follow.
This is one of my favorite beginner exercises, and it's something every one of my students practices in their very first lesson. It's simple, fun, and a great way to strengthen your communication while teaching your dog that paying attention to you is always rewarding.
