Your exhale is your nervous system’s off switch. Here’s how to use it. 🫁
When your exhale is longer than your inhale, your heart rate slows down. This is not a wellness trend, it is physiology.
The long exhale stimulates the vagus nerve, which directly activates your body’s braking system. Heart rate drops. Muscles release. Mind quiets.
Inhale for 4 → exhale for 8.
Five cycles. That’s all it takes.
Use this after a hard conversation, a stressful day, or any moment when your body won’t let go of tension.
One of the most powerful techniques in this entire series, and one of the most underused.
Part 7 of 10 of Breathe with Shai series. Follow for the next technique.
If your chest moves when you breathe, your body is in a low-grade stress response all day long. Without you even knowing. 😮💨
Most people never learned to breathe from their belly. And it costs them : tension, anxiety, shallow sleep, tight shoulders.
Diaphragmatic breathing activates your parasympathetic nervous system, your body’s rest and recovery mode. It tells your brain: I am safe. I can relax.
One hand on chest. One on belly.
Breathe so only the belly hand moves.
5 minutes a day, morning, evening, or whenever tension shows up.
This is the foundation of every other technique in this series.
