A small invitation from been. 🌱
If you've been following been for a while, perhaps you've wondered what it feels like from the inside.
The Founding Phase is already underway, and there is still room to join.
Bring something you noticed. Something you haven't quite found words for. A moment you want to hear yourself inside before deciding what it means.
Or simply come and experience what happens when an AI companion is designed to make room for your perception rather than rush to interpret it for you.
There is no cost to become a Founding Member, and your access to been will remain yours for life.
It is a small way of honoring the people who choose to be here at the beginning.
The Founding Phase is where been is meeting its first community.
There is still a place for you here. 🌱

A conversation feels different.
You feel relieved when a plan is cancelled.
Someone’s tone changes.
A place you usually love suddenly feels uncomfortable.
You notice something.
And almost immediately, we start trying to understand it.
Maybe I’m overthinking.
Maybe I’m too sensitive.
What does this mean?
What should I do?
We ask someone we trust.
We search.
We ask AI.
And every response brings something with it.
An opinion.
An explanation.
A reassurance.
A solution.
Sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.
But sometimes we need something before all of that.
A place where we can hear what we noticed before deciding what it means.
That is why I built been companion.
Sometimes what we need first isn't another answer.
But enough space to hear what we noticed before someone—or something—tells us what it means.
been is built to respond differently.
Behind its simple conversations are years of work, study, and observation that eventually became a framework and a methodology.
Those ideas have been translated into the way been is designed to respond:
specific principles, conversational boundaries, reference material, safety rules, testing scenarios and benchmarking.
Because what an AI doesn't do can matter just as much as what it does.
been isn't designed to rush ahead of you with an interpretation.
It isn't trying to become your therapist, your coach, your best friend, or the person who knows what your experience means.
It gives you somewhere to bring the thing you noticed while it is still yours.
You can write it.
You can speak it.
You can edit it before sending.
You can move naturally between languages.
You may understand something.
You may realize you were wrong.
You may still not know.
There is room for all three.
And then you return to your life.
Because been was never built to replace the people in it.
It was built to protect a small space that is very easy to lose:
the space between noticing something
and deciding what it means.
Before interpretation, there was something you noticed.

Before the Habit.

A small update to been that feels like a big one. 🤎
Today, I added voice-to-text.
Writing in been stays exactly as it is. You can still type anything you want, just as before. But now, when speaking feels easier than writing, you have another option.
You can write, or you can speak.
Arabic, English, or naturally move between both.
When you speak, been turns your words into text first. You can read them, edit them, delete them, or decide not to send them at all. Nothing is sent until you choose.
And been still responds in writing.
That mattered to me. I didn't want to turn been into a voice assistant. I wanted to give people another way to bring what is there, while keeping the reflective space itself intact.
It feels like a small feature.
But somehow, been feels more complete today. 🤎

been wasn't designed by starting with AI.
It started with a human question.
What happens to what we notice when someone responds to us?
Over time, that question developed into Gentle Emotional Engineering™ (GEE™) — a conceptual framework for understanding how conditions can preserve, alter, or interrupt perception.
From GEE™ came Naming Intact Perception (NIP), its first derived methodology.
And then came been.
been brings that human framework into conversation with technology.
GPT-5 provides extraordinary language capability.
NIP shapes the conditions around how that capability is used.
When to reflect.
When not to interpret.
When advice is actually being asked for.
When a person's own words are enough.
When to leave room.
And even when to stop.
That combination has been carefully designed, tested, observed, and refined — not simply to make AI sound more human, but to give it a more thoughtful position in a human conversation.
The technology matters.
But so do the conditions we design around it.
That is the thinking behind been.

Why another AI?
Because most of the time, we go to AI for what we want to do.
Write this.
Plan that.
Research something.
Solve a problem.
Generate an idea.
Make something faster.
And AI is incredibly good at that.
But we are not only productive beings.
We also have conversations that stay with us.
Moments we don't understand yet.
Decisions that feel complicated.
Pride we want to sit with.
Fear that arrives after good news.
A strange feeling when we enter a familiar place.
Something we noticed in someone's voice.
Sometimes we don't need help producing anything.
We need somewhere to bring the human part of being alive.
That is where been is positioned.
been is an AI companion designed for reflection and self-recognition.
You can bring what happened, what you noticed, what you're feeling, or simply something you don't have words for yet.
It won't assume you need advice.
It won't turn every reflection into a problem to solve.
And it won't try to know your experience better than you do.
It stays with you first.
And when you do want practical help, you can ask for it.
Because the role of AI doesn't always have to be helping us do more.
Sometimes it can help create enough space for us to hear ourselves.
Productivity has its AI.
been is for the human side.

What does a system teach a child — even when no one intends to teach it?
Children don’t meet systems as policies.
They meet them as tone.
As rigidity or care.
As adults who feel supported — or cornered.
A system is never neutral. It teaches, even when it doesn’t intend to.

When I first started using ChatGPT, what fascinated me most wasn’t productivity.
It was the language.
The way a sentence could make something I already sensed suddenly easier to see.
Sometimes I would read a response and think: That is unusually accurate.
And I started wondering:
Was this really the AI?
Or was I bringing something to the interaction too?
I became less interested in what the AI “knew” about me and more interested in what was happening between the language and the person encountering it.
The model generated the words.
But I was the one recognizing something in them.
Then I took what I was noticing outside the screen.
I began recreating similar conditions in human interactions: less rushing to interpret, more care with language, more room for someone’s own perception to remain intact.
And I began seeing similarly striking responses.
That changed something for me.
The technology had given me an unusual place to notice it.
But the phenomenon extended beyond the technology.
Change the conditions around perception, and something different becomes possible.
That's when the interconnection became much harder for me to ignore.

You can notice something without needing to solve it.
Something felt off.
Something felt lighter.
Something stayed with you.
Or maybe, for once, everything simply felt enough.
been was created as a place for those things to exist without immediately turning them into problems to fix.
And right now, been is entering its Founding Phase.
We’re inviting a small group of people to use been, experience it in their real lives, and help us learn what this kind of AI companion can become.
Not just as early users.
As people helping shape what comes next.
Join the Founding Phase and help us build been with care.
