Today, Nyayo National Stadium came alive as Kenya hosted the Thousands of Miles on the Silk Road, Colourful Africa Drone Light Show a dazzling celebration of the China Africa Year of People-to-People Exchange 2026.
Sports Kenya Director General Mr. Timothy Kilimo welcomed the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, joined by Mr. Evans Achoki, Secretary of Administration for Sports at the State Department for Sports; Mr. Mark Ogendi, CEO of Utalii College; and esteemed guests from the Chinese Embassy for an evening of football, culture and connection.
The evening kicked off with a friendly football match, followed by a breathtaking drone light show painting the Nairobi night sky with the Kenyan flag, wildlife silhouettes and symbols of friendship between our two nations.
Asante sana to everyone who came out to celebrate this special moment of unity, culture and shared skies between Kenya and China.

What a fantastic start to Team Kenya's Commonwealth Games athletics campaign in Glasgow in 2026.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kenya took first place with Edmund Serem winning gold in 8:18.23, Simon Koech winning silver in 8:18.59 and Leonard Bett winning bronze in 8:21.63. A flawless 1-2-3 finish that demonstrates Kenya's supremacy as the real steeplechase home once more.
Kudos to our winners for raising the Kenyan flag.

The stadion hotel at the Moi International Sports Centre (Kasarani) played host today to the official flag handover and send-off ceremony for Team Kenya ahead of their departure for the Commonwealth Games set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland. The colourful event brought together athletes, coaches, and government officials to formally unveil the contingent that will fly the Kenyan flag on the international stage.
Speaking at the event, Sports Principal Secretary Mr. Elijah Mwangi and Sports Kenya Director General Mr. Timothy Kilimo, alongside other officials and special guests, wished the team well and reaffirmed government support for Kenya's athletes as they prepare to compete on the global stage.
Team Kenya, resplendent in their orange and red Nike-branded kits, stood in solidarity as the national flag was officially handed over, marking the symbolic start of their Commonwealth Games journey. The contingent, which includes able-bodied and para athletes, was later pictured in a group photo proudly draping the Kenyan flag ahead of their trip to Glasgow.

Officers from the University of Nairobi Enterprises and Services (UNES) and the Kenya School of TVET yesterday visited the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, to assess the ongoing renovation works in preparation for AFCON.
The delegation was taken on a comprehensive site tour by the Sports Kenya technical team led by Deputy Director, Technical Services, Mr. Gabriel Komora. The visit focused on reviewing the Bills of Quantities (BQs) against the completed works and assessing the outstanding scope of work to ensure progress remains on track.
The exercise underscores the continued commitment of all stakeholders to delivering a world-class sporting facility that meets international standards ahead of AFCON.
