"Most moms and the medical community would most likely say no, but for yogis who are reluctant to miss mat time (myself included), it’s not necessarily that easy. Plus there are times when a moderate yoga practice can actually be helpful to fighting off a bug. Poses like twists, backbends and inversions offer some great internal butt kicking moves that support our immune system. And even gentle stretches and movement can do a lot to energize us and boost our spirits enough to get over an illness.
There Is A Big “BUT.”
However, the key phrase in this is a moderate yoga practice."

Should You Practice Yoga When You’re Sick?
It can be extremely tempting to practice yoga when you're sick, especially if you don't want to lose a day off the mat. But should you? Find out here!

“We’re all of us afraid of many things, but if you make yourself smaller or let your fear confine you, then you really aren’t your own person at all - are you? The real question is is whether or not you will risk what it takes to be happy.” - Paula McLain in “Circling the Sun”

"I think it’s pretty safe to say that the holidays can be both a wonderful and stressful time for most people. Whether you have never done a downward facing dog (adho mukha svanasana), or you regularly flip your dog, yoga can be a wonderful tool help get you through the insanity the next couple of months may bring."

Yoga - Creating your own calm | Stripes Okinawa
The true origins of yoga stretch deeply into history; there is no concrete evidence on its chronology or specific origin. However, what we do know is that yoga most certainly did not look like a yoga studio with 20 people in headstand (sirasana) on a yoga mat. Yoga developed in Ancient India at leas...

It has been a wild couple of weeks! I was in the US to help my family with Hurricane Irma recovery, and ended up staying a week longer than anticipated after two flight cancellations due to typhoons in Japan! A week late and a lot tired, I finally made it home just in time for the wildness of the holidays to set it. This is the time of year when it’s most important to ground into a yoga and meditation practice, and the time of year it’s most difficult for me to take my very own advice. I resolve to stay committed, and I hope you will as well. ❤️

Always this. ❤️
Dear, loves. My teacher and friend, Anga, will be subbing my Saturday class both this week and next. I will be traveling back in time to my hometown in the Florida Keys to offer my friends, family, and lifelong community support in their recovery post Hurricane Irma. For those of you that do not already know, Anga is an incredible teacher - one of my personal favorites. I know you will love her guidance, and I am already looking forward to seeing you all again when I return on October 28th.

Showing up exactly who I am, and where I am, on a day-by-day - and moment-by-moment - basis is not always easy. But this practice, and this life, only ever really requires me to be exactly where I am.

There is nothing I would love more than walking through a practice with you, exactly where you are. Come experiment with me this week at Risner on Kadena Air Base.

TLDR? Yoga and meditation is good AF for you. Do more of both!
You have two opportunities to practice with me this week at the Risner Fitness Center on Kadena Air Base.
It Works: New Study Outlines What Meditation, Yoga, & Prayer Can Do To The Human Body
The medicinal benefits of meditation and yoga are now firmly established in scientific literature. One of the latest studies to emerge on the matter comes from Harvard researchers working at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). They determined that meditation literally rebuilds the brain’s grey mat...

..this path is one of contentment and simplicity.
It empties the mind of its chattering, and fills the soul with truth.
It frees us from our wanting and returns us to our passion.
