Jasmine Hutton (2 time British National Champion and Current World Number 12) and Charlie Lee (Highest World Ranking 43 & 5 PSA Tour Titles) playing at our local club last weekend. The exhibition on Saturday was a ‘Jazz Soirée’ with Jasmine the star of the show! As Matt Boote, local event organiser and recently appointed Club Director said ‘for all those young girls and boys in the audience, events like these are truly special and inspiring.’

Jasmine and Charlie brought their love of the game to our Club and their enthusiasm to spread this message more widely back to the grassroots of our sport. Thank you so much for taking the time to get on court with some of our youngsters and club players on Sunday. Two great ambassadors of the sport that brought instant connection with our playing community!

The ARC Jersey Junior Squash Festival Weekend - 19-21 June, a celebration of all things Junior Squash and Jersey 🇯🇪 summertime ⛺️ 🏖️ 😎 🍦 !

Jersey Squash played hosts to 35 visiting juniors and their families from Guernsey and UK.

Friday night involved coaching and friendly fun games with our visitors.

Saturday was the first ever, England Squash - Channel Island, Junior Bronze Open

Sunday - saw a morning of fun games around the St Clement’s Sports Hub including Squash friendlies, Padel, Pickleball and outdoor Table Tennis in our Boasters Bar area and then in the afternoon there was the Jersey v Guernsey, Junior Inter Insular. This year won by Jersey 🇯🇪 🥳!

Our visitors were camping in St Martin and some based at Havre des Pas, near the bathing pool 🌊. There was also a barbecue 🍗 gathering at the Jersey Squash and Racketball club on Saturday night.

A fantastic weekend for all involved and an inspiring sporting memory for juniors taking part. Jersey players have made lots of new friends. And as you can see the pink ARC sponsors t-shirts were definitely a hit!

Thank you to everyone involved with organising the weekend and to our visitors. There truly was ‘something for everyone’ and we look forward to welcoming everyone back again next year. 🙏

Jasmine and Charlie will take part in exhibition matches mixing in with top Island players Matt Boote & Antony Harkin, followed by a Q&A session. With squash debuting at the LA28 Olympics, this is a unique on Island opportunity to watch squash played at the highest level. We would love to see a full house by Court E.

So good to see Nick Taylor back on Island this last week. Some great messaging in Nick’s interview with the JEP about individuals having the mindset to give back to their chosen sport. These people are the ‘heroes’ of sport that support our communities, either through volunteering time or sponsoring events.

Nick also highlights the stark difference between the USA, where business enterprises have far greater appetite to invest in sports, compared to the UK/Jersey, where there just isn’t the same level of corporate investment into sports. This is particularly true for smaller community sports like squash and racketball. Thanking 🙏 all corporates that do currently support us, this is greatly appreciated.

Nick is someone driven to make a success out of any sports project, working from the grassroots up, reaching to all cross sections of the playing community. Jersey Squash was fortunate to have several years of Nick as our Development Director and what we like most now is that Nick still manages to find time to keep in contact and support the local squash and racketball scene and the Jersey players in competition! ☺️

The Jersey Squash and Racketball Club became a hive of activity over the weekend, as more than 180 players came together for the ARC Jersey Racketball Festival, producing many thrills on the courts.

Well done 👏 to all the year 4 students who took part in squash tasters this week as part of the Butterfield Liberation Games. How fun 🤩 to be able to try a range of different sports all in one day! Lots of great hand eye coordination on show and transferable skills between team and individual sports.

Primary Schools Squash Festival 2026 - Congratulations to all the students from Plat Douet, St Luke’s, St Lawrence and Mont Nicolle who took part in this year’s squash event, held on 30 April at the Jersey Squash and Racketball Club in St Clements. Very well done to this year’s primary festival event winners St Lawrence.

Most of the students taking part had no prior experience of squash, but you wouldn’t have known it by the end of the morning! The children participated in various squash skills across the courts to gain points for their team, followed by some ‘competitive and fun’ opportunities to play students from across the different schools.

I hope the students enjoyed this event as much as the Coaching team!

Inter Insular 2026 - An epic win 🏆 for Jersey 🇯🇪 26-11 in this year’s fixture against Guernsey 🇬🇬, kindly sponsored by FCM.

Jersey not only won the overall event, they won 6 out of the 8 categories played. Ladies Squash 2-0, Ladies Racketball 5-0, Men’s Racketball A 4-1 and Racketball B 3-2, Men’s Veteran’s Squash 5-0 and Men’s Over 55 Racketball 5-0.

At the very top of Channel Island Men’s Squash, Jersey’s Charlie Griggs, No 1, beat the young and talented, Guernsey No 1, Leo Ware 3-1. Jersey’s Antony Harkin, playing at seed 2, also had a good win against Jack Turvey 3-1, reversing the result from last year’s Inter Insular in Guernsey against Jack.

At number 3, Guernsey’s Henry Birch won a fifth setter 3-2 victory (11-9) against Scott Gautier, in the tie that probably decided the team’s result. It was the finest of performances from both players and fantastic to watch.

Playing at number 4, Will Turpin lost to his more experienced opponent Toby Young, but has made good progress in his game since last year.
Tom Bullock from Jersey came very close to a debut match win playing at number 5 for Jersey A, coming from 2-0 down to level the match 2-2, but then losing the deciding 5th game against Leo Fossey. Overall, Guernsey, by the narrowest of margins, won the coveted Men’s A Squash 3-2.

Guernsey once again dominated in the Men’s B squash event with a 5-0 win, which actually is a warning ⚠️ sign that Guernsey’s pipeline of future players is looking very healthy. Junior Charlie Le Lay and Pat Dixon both took a game off their opponents, but it was (as ever) very tough for Jersey Men’s B Squash.

In the ladies events, Jersey won all the fixtures in both Squash and Racketball. Amelie Turpin, playing at 1 for Jersey Squash, had to dig deep at 6-3 down in the fifth to win against her experienced, Guernsey opponent, Gemma Coquelin. Junior, Tyler McAllister won comfortably for the Jersey ladies squash team. The Jersey Racketball ladies, put 5 wins on the board, with Elizabeth Casely, Jersey’s number 1, securing a good 3-1 win against Abby Darnell. Well done to Elizabeth Fenlon, Yvonne Mundy, Val Brown, Nicole Taylor Keaton!

In Racketball A, Richard Brocken seed 2, was first up on show court playing Omar Kandilli. Richard, under the watchful eye of Neal Pickersgill (playing for Neal’s trophy 🏆) got the team off to the perfect start winning 3-0. The number 1 contest saw Janick Radford of Guernsey, (switch from squash to racketball), coming up against Jersey’s very talented, ball striker Aaran Higgins. Aaran kept Janick in his sights for the first game, losing 13-11, but Janick’s exceptional fitness became telling as the match went on, with Aaran eventually losing 3-0. John Southern and Stuart Conroy also secured close Jersey victories.

For the spectators, it was all about the compelling battles and Ed Fletcher’s seed 5 match against Patrick Josey in Men’s Racketball A certainly had it all. Ed came back from match point down in the third to eventually win the match 3-2. Ed described this as one of the best matches he had ever played! Franck Matthews, Director of event sponsors FCM, and playing for Racketball B similarly played ‘one of his best games ever!’ It was just one of those days when the Jersey 🇯🇪 team were all on 🔥 .

Jersey’s other 3-2 star ⭐️ winners on the day were John Hibbs in the Men’s Veterans and Paul Frankland in O55 Racketball. FCM Managing Director, John Wood also secured a Jersey win 💪.

There is often talk about ‘squash families’ and this being a big part of the growth in the sport. Guernsey are doing just that, with squash mums Lisa Ware, Yolanda Young and daughter Sophie Young making their debuts for Guernsey in the Ladies Racketball. This is an excellent initiative from Guernsey 👏! It was a good day for the trio of Guernsey Birch 🌳 brothers securing 3 wins, comprising 27% of Guernsey’s points.

Thank you to event organisers from both Islands and to Frankie behind the bar, Domingo’s for catering and all the volunteers that helped with the BBQ and with the bar throughout the day. And to our local supporters, the home crowd were amazing. A shout out to Ernie Bird, drinking captain 🧑‍✈️, who forever supports Jersey in this event. All round, it was a fabulous team effort.

To end with the stats Jersey 🇯🇪 won the Squash 9-8 and Jersey 🇯🇪 won the Racketball 17-3. Yay 🥳 !

Next up, on the weekend of 20/21 June the juniors will go head to head in a Jersey 🇯🇪 V Guernsey 🇬🇬 Inter Insular event and a Channel Island Open - Bronze event, taking place at the Jersey Squash and Racketball Club.
