Raijin ***

Shinto god of lightning, thunder, and storms in Japanese mythology. Often depicted as a fierce, muscular demon with red skin and drums, he is famously known for creating thunderclaps, alongside his brother, the wind god Fūjin.His rich mythology, cultural impact, and modern lore encompass several key areas.

He is typically shown surrounded by a ring of taiko drums, which he beats to create thunder. Interestingly, he is often depicted with only three fingers on each hand, symbolizing the past, present, and future.

One popular piece of folklore suggests Raijin has a habit of stealing and eating human navels during storms. This led to the traditional Japanese custom of wearing a stomach wrap (haramaki) to protect the belly during sudden weather changes.

Raijin remains a popular figure in gaming and media. He appears as a god in the strategy game franchise Age of Empires, and he serves as the inspiration for the Mortal Kombat character Raiden and the massive Category V Kaiju in Pacific Rim.
Along with Fūjin, Raijin is historically credited with the "Divine Wind" (kamikaze)—devastating typhoons that destroyed the Mongol fleets trying to invade Japan in the 13th century
