Italian Championship - Round 2 (Leno, Italy)
We're back home after an intense second round of the Italian Championship in Leno! 🇮🇹
I took a few days before writing this report to process everything and find the right words…
The entire weekend went perfectly, and I was consistently on pace with the other top drivers. Following an amazing start from P4, I slotted in right behind Mirko, Filippo, and Francesco, knowing my race strategy differed from theirs.
After the first fuel tank, we decided to change only the front-outside tire. We lost just about 3 seconds more than the others in the pit lane, but it turned out to be the best choice possible. By the end of the run, I clearly had more tire life left, allowing me to push hard and delay my second stop to secure fresher tires for the final stages of the 45-minute final.
The race saw its share of chaotic moments—including flame-outs and crashes from competitors—which allowed me to pick up positions. Following my scheduled four-tire pit stop, I emerged right in front of Tironi as the new race leader!
The Heartbreak
Managing the car on brand-new tires wasn't easy at first, but I managed to stay in front for quite a long time. A couple of pit stops later, a small setup trimming error allowed Tironi to pass me back, though I was still right there in the hunt for the win.
Then, disaster struck with just 7 minutes to go:
• I entered the pit lane slightly too fast.
• I clipped the metal wall, breaking the steering servo arm.
• Thinking only the body shell was damaged, I re-entered the track, but the car veered straight into the wall at full throttle, ending my race with an unlucky P7. 🥺
That single mistake cost me a shot at the victory.
Looking Forward
On one hand, I am deeply disappointed by my own error. On the other hand, I am thrilled with my overall performance. Battling the top drivers all weekend and setting the second-fastest lap 13.770 of the final (right behind my teammate Mirko) proves how much I've improved this year in the Pro category. 💪🏼
Now, all focus shifts to the final round of the National Championship in Fiorano in a couple of weeks. As the current championship leader, my goal is to take the title! 🤞🏽 Fingers crossed.
See you soon! Wishing all my friends the best of luck at the upcoming ENS. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it, as my dad is currently in the USA for the Buggy Worlds.
As usually I would like to say a big thanks to all my sponsor and I feel also sorry
