Team Attero recently engaged with Shri Keshav Chandra, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, on his assumption of office, alongside NCMM Mission Director Shri Kadam Sandeep Vasant.

The conversation centred on a simple but critical gap: India's e-waste collection systems remain fragmented, and that fragmentation is costing the country critical minerals it could be recovering at home.

Under the National Critical Mineral Mission, we discussed what it will take to close that gap, formalised collection infrastructure, stronger recovery pathways, and less resource loss at the source.

The math is straightforward. Every tonne of e-waste that leaks out of formal channels is a tonne of critical minerals India ends up importing instead of recovering. Fixing collection isn't a side issue for resource security, it's the starting point.

Attero remains committed to building that capability, strengthening recycling and urban mining infrastructure so India's secondary resource base can carry more of the load. We look forward to continued work with the Ministry of Mines, Govt of India and the broader ecosystem in service of India's resource security and the Viksit Bharat vision.

All authorised recyclers follow the same rules. Should they get the same recognition?

India recycled record e-waste tonnage this year. So why are critical minerals still imported?

The gap isn't in the rules, it's in what the rules measure. Two recyclers can process the exact same tonnes. One recovers copper worth crores. The other, barely half.
