Securing India's Critical Minerals: Attero Meets the Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog Official

Dr. Abhinav Mathur, Advisor to the Board at , met Dr. Kumar Lahiri, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, to discuss a priority for India's future: critical mineral security.

Key takeaways:
• Recycling is India's fastest path to critical minerals. New mines take years, imports are unpredictable. Urban mining is the one lever we can scale today.
• The real problem is fragmented ownership, not fragmented policy. India needs stronger EPR ex*****on and one institution that owns the full value chain.
• Without support for advanced recycling, the informal sector fills the gap, and we lose valuable minerals along with real environmental costs.

We proposed a National Critical Minerals Authority, Resource Circularity Metrics for e-waste and battery waste, and policy that reflects the true cost of informal recycling.

Grateful to Dr. Lahiri and NITI Aayog for engaging with this as a question of India's mineral sovereignty, not just recycling.
