Forget the leopards and the lions tor a second-the real action is catching one of South Africa’s little BIG 5... an Ant Lion.
You use the ‘Tickle Technique. You’re mimicking an ant falling into the trap. Once they flick the sand... you scoop.
It takes a second to find them because they’re masters of disguise. But look at those mandibles! These guys are actually the larvae of Lacewings, and they can stay in this stage for up to three years.
Finally, putting him right back where we found him so he can get back to his ‘Little Big 5’ lifestyle. Nature is incredible.
Disclaimer: We were careful and he was safely released seconds later to start his next project…

We aren’t professionals, and we’re definitely not “camera people”. Being naturally shy, speaking our second language, and navigating a bit of ADHD brain made filming this entire kingpin bearing replacement video a mission of its own! 🛠️
But looking back at these bloopers, I just see a lot of heart and a lot of learning. It’s carefree, it’s wholesome, and it’s us.
Dad, I’m so incredibly proud of you. We made it happen, and I wouldn’t want to figure these things out and make these videos with anyone else. 🤍
Don’t let a recovery turn into a disaster. Here are 4 non-negotiables for staying safe under tension.
1. Lock Your Anchors: Use a heavy-duty winch and solid anchor points. If you’re pulling against a rock or tree, make sure it’s a secure fit before you put that cable under load. 🪨🌳
2. Take Cover: Stay behind the metal of your car door for cover, NOT the windshield. Glass won’t stop a snapping cable or a flying shackle. Use the body of the vehicle as your shield. 🛡️
3. Second Set of Eyes: Have a spotter standing at a safe distance. Their main job is to keep eyes on the anchor points to make sure nothing is slipping or shifting while you’re in the driver’s seat. 👀
4. Weight the Line: Use whatever you have—a bundle of sticks, a heavy floor mat, or a jacket. Anything is better than nothing to drop a snapping line to the ground. ⚖️
✨ EXTRA PRO TIP:
The « Tension Check »: Before the big pull, take up the slack until the line is taut, then stop. Do a final walk-around to check your anchors and damper.
Pro-upgrade: While sticks work in a pinch, look into getting dedicated winch-dampening bags. They’re designed to stay put and offer the best protection when things go wrong.
Building our own 4x4 track. Cut down some tree, move a couple of rocks. Next video will share some safety tips on winching🙈🤩
Completing boss level inclines like a PRO… even “DOUBLE JUMPING” on a ramp. Sometimes I wonder if dad is fearless or just brainless?😂 If he was brainless though I think we’d have more accidents… so maybe it’s not that🔥🙈
Dad explains 4WD, Low Range, and Diff Locks all in 1 minute. If you still don’t understand check out the full video in the title above.
Fever dreams🙈🙄 -if only it was this easy But we do sometimes only get time to wash the cars after work. Lighting our way with some proper headlamps, it all you need.
NEVER miss on getting the best 4x4 shots…
These Maxtrax were absolute beasts. After this vehicle got caught in a muddy ditch, vehicle’s traction control not being able to switch off. The winch just wasn’t strong enough to pull it out, and without traction the stuck vehicle was simply DEAD WEIGHT! Come in, Maxtrax, helped beautifully and the Prado was recovered in no time. Well done guys, check out the full video on our YouTube Channel We definitely need to get ourselves one or two of these.
