Eight women have died in violent circumstances in the Republic of Ireland so far in 2026.
Eight women, each with a name, a family, friends and a life that mattered.

According to Women's Aid the number of women who have died violently in Ireland in 2026 has already surpassed the total recorded for the whole of 2025.
Since the Womenโs Aid Femicide Watch began in 1996, 286 women have died violently in Ireland.
As Soroptimists, we work to transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and action. We remember these women, and we continue to speak out against violence against women in all its forms.
We must continue to name it, challenge it and work together for a society where every woman and girl can live safely and free from violence.
We remember their names. ๐งก

Across our history, Soroptimists have included women who served at the highest levels of political, civic and public life. Through their leadership, visibility and commitment to service, they helped open doors for the women who followed.
Representation matters.
When women see other women leading, speaking, negotiating, legislating and shaping public life, it changes what feels possible.
If I canโt see it, I canโt be it.
On International Day of Parliamentarism is a timely reminder that womenโs voices must be central to public decision-making.
The future of women in Ireland will be shaped by the policies we create, the priorities we choose and the people represented around the table.
When women are included in politics, our lived experience informs better decisions on health, wealth, care, safety, equality and opportunity.
As Soroptimists, we stand for womenโs voice, agency and leadership in every space where decisions are made.

On 26 June 1945, representatives of 50 nations signed the Charter of the United Nations, laying the foundations for an international commitment to peace, human rights, dignity and cooperation.
Eighty-one years later, the principles enshrined in that Charter remain as important as ever.
At Soroptimist International Republic of Ireland, we share the vision of a world where equality, justice and opportunity are available to all. Through advocacy, education and action, we work to empower women and girls, strengthen communities and contribute to a more inclusive and peaceful society.
The progress we have made globally has been built through collaboration, dialogue and the determination of people who believe in a better future. Yet we know there is still work to be done.
Women's voices must continue to be heard in decision-making spaces.
Human rights must continue to be protected. Equality must continue to be advanced.
Today, we reflect on the ideals that inspired the United Nations and recommit ourselves to building a world where every person can live with dignity, safety and opportunity.
Earlier this year, SIROI members brought their voices and advocacy to the UN for CSW70 in New York, demonstrating the important role that civil society organisations continue to play in advancing the principles of equality and human rights envisioned in the UN Charter.

24 June | International Day of Women in Diplomacy
Womenโs leadership is essential to peace, progress and lasting change.
The International Day of Women in Diplomacy reminds us that decisions about peace, security, human rights and development must include womenโs voices at every level.
Across the world, women continue to lead in diplomacy, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, advocacy and international cooperation. Yet too often, they remain underrepresented in the rooms where decisions are made.
As Soroptimists, we know that representation matters. When women are included, different priorities are heard. Communities are better understood. Solutions are stronger, fairer and more sustainable.
Through our advocacy at local, national and UN level, Soroptimists continue to stand up for womenโs leadership, internationalism, human rights and equal participation in shaping the future.

Today, we celebrate the individuals who dedicate their time, skills and passion to serving others and strengthening communities.
United Nations Public Service Day recognises the vital contribution that public service makes to societies around the world. From frontline workers and educators to community leaders, volunteers and advocates, public service helps build stronger, more inclusive and resilient communities.
At Soroptimist International Republic of Ireland, service is at the heart of who we are. Through advocacy, education, fundraising and community action, Soroptimists work to improve the lives of women and girls both locally and globally.
We know that meaningful change happens when people step forward, take action and choose to serve.
Today, we thank all those who work tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of others.
๐ Serving with purpose
๐ Leading with integrity
๐ Building stronger communities
๐ Creating lasting impact
Behind every thriving community are people who care enough to act.

Today, on World Refugee Day, we recognise the strength, resilience and courage of millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution and violence.
Women and girls are often disproportionately affected by displacement, facing increased risks and barriers to education, healthcare, employment and safety. As Soroptimists, we believe that every person deserves dignity, opportunity and hope.
Today we stand in solidarity with refugees and recommit ourselves to building communities that are welcoming, inclusive and compassionate.
