A weekend in August and the North Campus of UL turned into a hive of activity as it played host to the annual Irish Open Softball Tournament or IOST for short.20 teams from all over the place took part in 84 games over the two days of the weekend and we were one of them! We're not sure when the last time a Limerick team competed at IOST was but this year we were back! We joined up with several players from the other Softball Connacht Munster groups and a few from further afield to field 20 players in our 8 games. We had a mixture of experience and novice, a rolling roster to give as much game time to people as we could and 5 different pitchers.
We left the tournament with sore bodies, slight sunburn, our first IOST game win and tons of experience gained with each game played. We had some great pitching, batting, catching, the odd double play and the occasional hilarious mess up but that's all part of the game. We couldn't be prouder of our players and a huge thank you to those more seasoned campaigners who helped guide our newer recruits in game and took them under their wings.
Hopefully we'll see everyone back for IOST 2027! 🥎🥎

There is an ancient Irish saying that you should not play softball during a solar eclipse. 😆 With that in mind we're going postpone our practice for this week.
