Bit of timber prep today.

Sanded back with Mirka 120 to get everything nice and smooth, then on with the first coat of Sadolin Extra Durable Woodwork natural from crown.

Applied with the 2.5” Aqua Glider — lovely control, smooth flow, and a clean finish.

Then it’s left for 24 hours, given a light little rub down, and back on with the second coat to finish it off properly.

Prep, patience, second coat — that’s how you get the finish.

Every corner I get to is rougher than the last.

And I know the comments will come again:

“Needs replacing.”
“That window is finished.”
“Waste of time repairing that.”

But honestly, that’s dreamland stuff.

If I told this customer to replace every window with a bit of rot, they’d be looking at thousands and thousands. On this house alone, there’s about ten windows needing attention.

I’ve been repairing timber windows nearly 30 years. Back in the day, it was all two-pack filler — no resin repairs — and I’ve gone back to jobs 5, 10, even 11 years later and they were still doing their job.

Yeah, sometimes you might get a small crack or another little bit that needs touching up, but that doesn’t mean the whole window needs ripping out.

Stay on top of them. Repair them properly. Paint them every 5 to 10 years. They’ll last.

The resin systems are even better now, and this two-pack epoxy hardener rebuild stabiliser from Oxera is absolutely brilliant. You soak the soft timber, let it pull right in, and it goes rock hard.

Then depending on the size of the repair, you can go with the resin rebuild, or if there’s too much rot, go heavier with the Filltite wood filler.

The Filltite wood filler I’m using seems really good as well. im really impressed ill do a reel on that soon

Not every rotten corner means a new window.

Harden it.
Rebuild it.
Paint it properly.
Stay on top of it.

Repair before replace.

That’s the job.

Awkward little apex sorted.

I done this same bit 11 years ago by climbing straight onto the roof like an eejit. Not this time. The tiles are older, more fragile, and I’m slightly less stupid now.

Big sturdy ladder, safe setup, sanded back the fascia and soffit, then varnished them with the Two Fussy Blokes 4” Aqua Gliders.

I used Sadolin Extra in Teak and Natural from Crown, giving it two coats with 24 hours between coats because it’s oil-based.

Little trick in the video too — cloth over the paint tray while sanding to keep the dust out and save climbing up and down.

Came up lovely.

Rolling a pink colour code 10YR/143 kitchen wall with the 15mm Microfibre sleeve, applying Diamond Matt.

Lovely coverage, smooth finish, and the roller holds plenty of paint without making a mess. Perfect setup for getting walls done clean and quick.

Cutting in around hinges on kitchen presses.

Some people like to take all the doors off, and I get why, but I actually prefer painting them while they’re still hanging.

No racks everywhere, no storing doors, no moving them around, and no messing taking everything on and off. Over the years I’ve just got used to cutting in neatly around the hinges, so for me it’s quicker and keeps the job flowing.

It’s not for everyone, but once you’re confident doing it, it makes life a lot easier.
